Republican Sens. John McCain (Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (S.C.) are voicing concerns that a senior military official may have divulged key details about an upcoming offensive against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
It was deeply disturbing to read today that an official from U.S. Central Command, in an official briefing to the media, provided detailed operational information regarding coalition plans to retake Mosul," the pair wrote in a letter to President Obama.
Never in our memory can we recall an instance in which our military has knowingly briefed our own war plans to our enemies, said McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Graham.
The disclosures not only risk the success of our mission, but could also cost the lives of U.S., Iraqi, and coalition forces.

(23,946 posts)Mosul has been a target since forever to take back. Thousands of fighters are already nearby and shelling ISIS positions...apparently it is shocking to the Twin Twits of Congress that we "suddenly" reveal we want Mosul back.....I think ISIS might already be aware of that!
What is deeply disturbing is the viciousness and stupidity of these asshats, as there was no "detailed plans" revealed...fucking liars and charlatans.
Actually it was CNN and Wolf Blitzer that introduced that meme and blew the dog whistle for his two favorite media dogs to respond....as they predictably did. It is all propaganda and theatre with Blitzer.
And who gives a shit what a state governor thinks of any strategy, CNN.
Whose side are you on, it is unclear?
No strategy revealed at all, damned - general strategy of taking back a city of 1.4 million, damned for revealing any strategy at all.
"During a background briefing on Thursday a senior official at Central Command told reporters a surprising number of details about a spring offensive to rid Mosul, Iraqs second largest city, of up to 2,000 ISIS fighters.
The official disclosed it would take about 25,000 members of Iraqs security forces, trained by U.S. troops in as little as three to four weeks, to retake Mosul and that the offensive likely would happen in April or May."
How does that "reveal" anything but general objectives...it may not even be true, to fake out ISIS, to make any new recruits have second thoughts. The take back attack might be tomorrow!

(5,169 posts)Deception and misdirection is far more effective and less bloody than actual combat.
Perhaps this is an effort to have ISIS gear up on high alert for an April attack, and then get exhausted waiting in heightened alert?
