Or Santorum. Or Bachman. Or Ron Paul. Or Huckabee. Or Guiliani. Or Romney. Or Fred Thompson.

You have to admit that when it comes to running for president, the GOP have clearly set a precedent for being "dumb" not being a restriction to throwing one's hat in the ring. In fact, it has almost become a prerequisite for entering into the race.

Carswell was criticized for being a mediocre judge. A Republican Senator from Nebraska said that was OK, because there were a lot of mediocre people in America, and maybe it was time they got some representation on the Supreme Court, too. Fortunately, Carswell's nomination went nowhere, which is just about where Rick Perry's presidential ambitions will end up.
