Rick Perry: Running for president ‘is not an IQ test’

By Jose A. DelReal December 11 at 8:43 AM

Is Rick Perry smart enough to be president? The Lone Star State's governor disagrees with the premise of the question.

“Running for the presidency is not an IQ test. It is a test of an individual’s resolve, it is a test of an individual’s philosophy, it is a test of an individual’s life experiences,” he told MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt in an interview that aired Thursday. “And I think Americans are ready for a leader that will give them a great hope about the future.”

Perry, who is planning a second presidential bid, is seeking to move beyond a failed 2012 campaign plagued by missteps and negative national coverage. (The tenor of his media treatment during the last election cycle is probably best summed up by the 2011 Politico headline, “Is Rick Perry dumb?”)

The GOP governor has yet to formally announce his candidacy but he has been studying up with policy experts and has received a heavy dose of media training for the national stage. He is hoping that will sufficiently prepare him to run for the GOP presidential nomination a second time.

He is telling people not to judge him by his lack of smarts. Why else would he do that?

Since as far as Texas Governors go, George Dubya is referred to as "the smart one."

Is it doesn't take smart. Do we need another not so bright guy with a laser beam sight on his gun running our nation, not no but hell no. As a Texan who has suffered under Bush and Perry, we as a nation is smarter, Perry is bad for Texas and is not presidential material.

I just saw the video of that, and I can't believe she actually asked him that. Why would that even come up, did he just take an IQ test and score in the 80s or something?

Besides, it is pretty clear that Perry did not prepare very well for the debates. It seems he thought all he had to do was show up and spout off platitudes and that would carry the day along with his pretty face, his dyed hair, and his cowboy boots. So maybe it should have been worded differently, along the lines of "What makes you the logical choice for voters?" But reporters don't seem to ask those kinds of questions anymore.

a genius. Just look at who we (I'm a Texan) have elected to run our beloved state in the last 2 decades. "W", Perry, Cornyn, Hutchinson, Patterson, Abbott, Cruz, and last but not least Dan Patrick (a right-wing talk radio host from Houston). The most popular trend in Texas these days is "open carry" - being able to wear your "hog leg" pistol in full sight - yep, we are simply longing for the good ole days of Judge Roy Bean.

Sadly Rick Perry does not realize he is an embarrassment to our state because in reality he isn't - he represents a lot of folks that think just like he does.

Of course if you want to live in a state that caters to business and shuns any type of social contract then this is the place.

I would move but I was here before these morons took over and they aren't going to force me out!

Peace

''Whenever he visited the White House to color the First Lady's hair, Julius also dyed the President's gray roots, which he had been doing secretly since 1968.''

Mr. Reagan is legendary for his ability to insist with seeming sincerity that black is white (or, in this case, that white is black). The hair question is worth cherishing for its starkness. The usual muddling devices are not available.

He cannot claim he didn't know they were dying his hair. He cannot claim he can't remember. He cannot blame the Congress for dying his hair against his will. He can't say it's a matter of national security. And it's not one of those complicated questions the nation learned to give Ronald Reagan a pass on.

More chuckles on Raygun's jetblack hair here.

She saw him close up, daytime and not only was his hair very dyed, he was also wearing face makeup including lipstick. No surprise for 2 ex H.wood B actors. Nancy wore a lot of wigs for what it's worth.
Rick Perry was asked when the American Revolution took place & answered, 'somewhere in the mid-1500s?' as I saw this year on Bill Maher.
