Related: About this forumWendy Davis destroys Greg Abbott in Texas Gubernatorial debate
Wendy Davis came prepared for her debate with Greg Abbott. In the snippets in the embedded video she shows why she is qualified and Greg Abbott is just a shill for the plutocracy.
Senator Wendy Davis did not allow Greg Abbott to get away with his attempt at slick answers. She successfully rebuffed and challenged his answers.

(2,648 posts)in the state. If he really believes that, then why did he and dumber'na-bag-of-hammers perry push for and get the over 5 billion dollar cut for public education in the state of Texas?
Abbott, perry, and Dewhurst are still the 3 stooges of politics in the state.
My apologies to the real 3 Stooges.

(31,849 posts)San Antonio. I saw a couple ads for Abbott. I didn't know he is in a wheelchair. He's still an a$$.
Avalux
(35,015 posts)and we both know that being disabled has nothing to do with being nice, or a good person, which he isn't. I live in San Antonio, and I'm sure Wendy will take our county. The rest of the state? Unfortunately the way the lines are drawn, winning will be a miracle. Keep your fingers crossed for a miracle!

(21,046 posts)He was out jogging in West University Place (a wealthy city inside Houston next to Rice University) and a tree fell on him. It paralyzed him. He sued the homeowner for damages and won ten million dollars.
However he is against the Americans With Disabilities Act, and in favor of tort reform so other injured people will not be able to sue and get damage awards adequate to pay their medical bills or compensate their pain and suffering.
Big cash awards for me but not for thee. GODDAMN HYPOCRITE.

(31,849 posts)I really enjoyed San Antonio. It's a nice city and has made me reconsider all my previous thoughts and experiences in Texas.

(35,015 posts)I grew up in the NE and moved here years ago. San Antonio is not typical of Texas as you discovered; our city is culturally diverse, and BLUE - I adore the Castro brothers and really sad Julian is no longer mayor (even though I know he's destined for greater things).
At one point I spent a lot of time in Austin, but it's so crowded and pretentious there now. I'd never live anywhere else in Texas but here. I'm glad our city changed your mind a bit, hopefully you'll come back. What did you do while you were here?

(31,849 posts)so our days and into the evening were pretty shot; but we did do the River Walk and ate at a different restaurant each evening.
I did notice a lot of young, and seemingly, homeless folks ... but then, ComicCom was at the convention center, so I may have been mistaken!

(21,046 posts)I had to drive to Austin on weekends to see the big name rock bands at the Armadillo World Headquarters. That was before they ruined Austin with big buildings too.
I went to college in San Antonio. You could see the sky and there weren't nearly as many big buildings. Lots of empty freeways.
Now it's totally different. It's overgrown with suburban sprawl. The only way to really get into the Hispanic heritage is to go downtown to Mi Tierra, El Mercado or the Riverwalk, which is a tourist trap.
You know what was fun? I was there for the State Democratic Convention in 1980, talking to some of Teddy Kennedy's crew. Looking out the window of a highrise Marriott next to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Some guy asks me, "Where's the Alamo?"
Me: "Down there (pointing). It's in the middle of downtown." Him: Stunned silence.
I was there last fall, and stunned to see big buildings right up against Brackenridge Park trying to ruin it.
If you want to see a really cool art museum, go to the Marion Koogler McNay Museum. It was the lady's house, a Spanish style mansion with a courtyard and fountain in the middle. Lots of impressionists and modern art. I went there on a field trip from a college art class and saw my first Paul Gauguin. It's on the corner of North New Braunfels and Old Austin Highway, on the Near Northeast side near Alamo Heights. A real hidden gem.
And they tore down Earl Abel's coffeehouse on the corner of Hildebrand and Broadway. Dammit!
The only 24 hour hangouts at the time were Earl Abel's and Mi Tierra.

(28,257 posts)At least: (1) a serious effort has been made to keep the freeway system in San Antonio even with growing traffic burdens, and (2) you don't have to put up with the snotty pretentiousness that has been a part of "the Austin experience" for decades and is now in full flower. Sorry, Austinites, but I grew up there, and I know what I'm talking about.....

(16,296 posts)Sad to say, Abbott has maintained a double digit lead almost from the beginning. Hope it ain't so, but it appears Texas is going to remain in the Repuke column.
