Campaigning Sunday for Democratic candidates in Iowa, Clinton declared: "You will not have to worry that if you elect them, 30 years from now they will actually stand up with a straight face before a bunch of rich, out-of-state donors and say, 'The saddest day of my life was when I couldn't take it all from you and keep it a secret.'"
The former president was referring to a secretly-taped June speech McConnell gave before a gathering hosted by the billionaires Charles and David Koch, at which the Kentuckian said the signing of a landmark campaign finance reform law was "the worst day of my political life." The tape was obtained by The Nation.
Among worse days McConnell ignored, Clinton noted, were the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists attacks on the United States and the financial crisis of 2008.

"And what about in his native Kentucky - 70 percent of the coal miners losing their jobs before the EPA ever said a world with no strategy to put them back to work in other ways? How could you possibly say that the worst thing that ever happened to you was not being able to black bag unlimited amounts of money in politics when all of these things happened to Americans?" Clinton asked.

(5,106 posts)Having lived in Kentucky, I know the people are far from "toothless hicks," as one stupid politician recently put it. Sadly I've lived in a number of different states, however. It's the same In Pennsylvania, Kentucky, West Virginia, even New Jersey: an amazing number of people will vote against their own interests due to some inane personal quirk or prejudice.

(168 posts)9-11 was great for republicans . It got people's minds off the republicans on supreme court stealing the 2001 election for bush. It allowed neo-con artists to invade iraq. It got democrats voted out office for not being "patriotic" enough. Made haliburton and koch brothers richer. Whats not to like?
