Why would people vote for the GOP?

ANYONE voting for the GOP these days obviously has a screw loose, or they're filled with hatred for the Democratic party and their president. The GOP stands for nothing good for this country. It's all about me, me, me. They need more tax breaks. They need to destroy the middle class. They want and need more government shutdowns. No national healthcare for it's own citizens. WTF!!! Their party has done NOTHING in the past 6.5 years. Actually if you add the 8 Bush years, it's 14.5 years.

Haven't we suffered enough? If the GOP wins anything in November, I will be shocked. If it happens and they take control of anything, then God help us all.

seem to be stuck on a singe issue and nothing else. They care more about getting in other peoples personal business than jobs, healthcare and education, that is until something threatens their comfort zone, then there is a problem. The fact that the GOP candidates actually are telling the average middle class and poor GOP voter that he/she is going to screw them does not filter through. The amount of selfishness is mind boggling.

These people can be compared to animals. Just like the pick of the litter, the stronger one survives. And screw everyone else. And who cares if my little brother gets any food. That's his problem. Animals I tell you, animals.

So where is the humanity on the part of the GOP? There is none. A majority of them are cold hearted, selfish, ignorant people.

They continue to listen to FAUX NOISE and will never change. They're all brainwashed.

Truly. The GOP can screw up, disgust them, and all that, but they stay loyal to "the home team" Its really like sports for them. Cubs fans hang on to the Cubs no matter how awful they become just because the other choice, the White Sox, are intolerable. The same is true for Sox fans.

While that's fine for sports, this is politics and how America is run. This is life or death, not some goddamn game.

And they don't even care that much about the spending. They just don't want to pay any more in taxes than they already pay.

Why Democrats don't counter that meme is another issue. Talk radio plays into that, but is not, in my opinion, the whole answer.

Some are very religious and simply will not vote for people who embrace the GLBT community or are pro-choice. Where the rubber may hit the road for them (no pun intended) is the teaching of some churches against contraception.

Some have bought into the GOP strategy of making themselves seem like patriots while making Democrats seem like traitors. So, they equate supporting troops and first responders (and flag waving jingoism) with being Republican.

Some are racist and/or incredibly selfish and hold the Civil Rights Act and/or affirmative action against the Democratic Party. Some of them are probably still holding Lincoln to task for the Emancipation Proclamation. However, that was a long time ago and, given a choice between Republican and Democrat, they'll vote Republican (since Dixiecrats are no more).

As an aside, while I think keeping the status quo benefits those with a conservative philosophy a hell of a lot more than it benefits anyone else, I don't want the Republican Party to accomplish its objectives, something they seem to do while in the majority or the minority. So, a do nothing Republican Party is better in my book than an activist Republican Party, as held sway in the days of Gingrich and DeLay.

Was I not supposed to give a serious answer?

disadvantaging others. I also think some are looking for self-brutalization and self-punishment by authoritative figures. Then, there are those that function purely in the name of greed. I also think some vote as sinners because of some held religious belief feeling they need power authorities to punish them for their supposed sins. And, then others vote purely in the name of hatred.

There are also real conservatives that are actually liberal in may ways, but they feel the republicans better protect their $$$$$. And others just go with the crowd. And then there are the fake patriots, bible thumpers, cross-bearers, all of that too that seem to think republicans are the way.

As someone uses as their sig. line on DU, some days it's not worth chewing through the restraints.

it takes only a little bit of logic and fact to overcome their pathetic, thinly-veiled appeals to fear and greed. so they ensure that the media focuses our attention on reality show stars and sports player trades and salaries and the one or two crimes out of hundreds of thousands each year that they care to cover.

meanwhile, they steal from their own voters and funnel money into the hands of a tiny few.

I purposely left out the word black. A week ago, I posted something about Michael Brown and used the words "black man" in the text. People were all over me for being a racist. Why I do not know as it was put in context with the story. I am the furthest thing from a racist. In this case, as long as Obama is in the white house, the hatred for him and his party will continue. So what happens if a woman wins the next election?

As for living in Mo, I love it here. I have excellent neighbors in a fairly decent neighborhood. As for Mo as a state, it certainly can be better. Being in a state that refused the Medicare expansion absolutely pisses me off to no end. Because of this, it has negatively affected the ACA, jobs, and people in our state.

Whether true or not, why do you feel the need to utter hateful words about others?

Hate mongering and fear mongering are not leadership. They do not convert anyone who is not already "on your side." There is nothing to be gained by them other than to strengthen an inner mean spirit.

Is it not sufficient to think that we are the side doing right things, and focus on the promotion of our virtue? By speaking of what we have to offer that is right and constructive, might we gain members who are "on the fence" as to which side to join? Might we even convert some of those who are not hearing what they want to hear from the other side and be attracted to ours?

It seems to me that calling the other side names and saying they are stupid and evil is certainly not going to attract any of them to our side, and converting those who are not on our side to be on our side might be a good idea if we want to win.

You have about as much of chance of converting a GOP member to be a Dem as you do the other way around. I just don't understand how so many people can support the beliefs of the GOP in it's current state. How can anyone vote for someone that wants to eliminate Social Security, Medicare, the ACA, and supports class inequality. I'm telling you, if the GOP gets in control, we're in for some very bad times ahead.

No new members wanted. It's just us, reinforcing our mutual hatred of outsiders.

News flash. I am actually a Republican. I have been voting Democratic and acting as a Democrat for about 15 years because the Democrats were espousing policies which appealed to me. They were saying things that attracted me.

Had they been speaking as you are now, I would never have even remotely considered changing sides.

Saying that you do not want new members, that you do not want to appeal to those who are not already of your persuasion, is a bigoted and losing position.

I should have seen you were the GOP. It makes sense now. However, the democratic party is open for business. And it's up to our dem representatives to reach out to others, not me. I myself have tried to convince many to change, but if no one's home and listening, why try? It must be the FAUX NOISE. It still does not stop me. The GOP is so screwed up now, I don't see how anyone can support them anymore. If I can believe what you say, smart move for voting for the enemy. Thanks.

As for your trolling and ignorant remarks, why don't you take them elsewhere.

I read a statistic a few weeks ago that 38% of republicans will vote their party, no matter who is in there. And it really don't matter who's crazy or not. (just try to define crazy - Its different for every person). I just cannot understand how anyone can support a party that does not have America's best interest in mind. It will be quite sad if they take control. Social security, the ACA, and the destruction of the middle class are first on their list.

An earlier poster nailed it. We need to somehow get the younger crowd out to vote. The next couple of months are critical.

Selfish motives. They like THEIR life, and don't care about your life. They have things THEIR way and can't be bothered to have empathy for anyone else. They see Blacks, Hispanics and those less fortunate as a threat to their way of life. So they vote their conscience. They only think of themselves.
