Related: About this forumRetired Army Colonel Rips Dick Cheney: He Isn't Immoral, He's Amoral
"I think amoral is a better and more precise, descriptive term. With Dick Cheney, it's all about power. Yes, it's about wealth coming from that power, too -- he's worth $70 million or $80 million now, so one can hardly say that's not the case -- but I think the power aspect of it ... is more important to him than the amassing of wealth," Wilkerson said.
He added that an amoral person makes for "a more dangerous individual" than an immoral one.

(9,999 posts)that evil SOB. And Cheney seems to thrive on all the derision directed at him, in fact, he seems to love it.

(18,672 posts)that Cheney and Scalia die on the same day (oh, and Thomas, because he has to do everything Scalia does). That way I can feel justified in refusing to offer condolences or feeling bad, even feeling relief when these destructive human beings are off of our planet all in one day. I don't want to have to do it again.

(90,706 posts)Wilkerson has it right.
When it was all the rage to say that Rove was some "genius" I would always counter it by saying he is not smarter than anyone else, he just is completely amoral, and in a forum like politics has an edge because he would do ANYTHING, literally. Politics, there are/were unspoken rules, and codes of conduct, but he would cross any line. Most people are tethered by SOME constraints of decency, honesty or the code of the forum they operate in, these guys aren't.
That is a big edge.
But, Cheney is gold standard for republican amoralism, as some noted, he revels in being reviled.

(5 posts)To say that Cheney was "immoral" would be to imply that he actually had a personal moral code. I think that this was a very astute observation, i.e. to label Chaney as "amoral. An amoral person never considers the morality of any action of theirs because they have no moral rules to follow.
