Megyn Kelly beats Bill O'Reilly for the whole week
Source: Deadline Hollywood
It might be known as the week that saw an earthquake at Fox News Channel as Megyn Kelly beat the almost unbeatable Bill OReilly in the key news demo last week. Yes, the 9 PM The Kelly File has topped 8 PMs The OReilly Factor on FNC before both on individual nights and even for a full week. However, those single nights were mainly around the time Kellys show debuted in early October last year and on Election Night 2013. The Kelly File beat The Factor during the week of May 5, but OReilly himself wasnt hosting that week. Last weeks victory was the first host-to-host face-off where Kelly came out the winner. From June 2-June 6, Kelly File drew 413,000 adults 25-54. Thats a hair ahead of the 402,000 that OReilly pulled in among the demo, but in ratings as in horse races, a win is still a win. Both shows were up from the 344,000 and 370,000 among the 24-54s that they had the previous week, respectively. OReilly remained No. 1 with 2.528 million viewers overall compared to Kellys 2.434 million. Last week was Kellys second best week of the year among the demo so far. For the week of January 27, the host had 440,000 viewers on average among Adults 25-54. With Kelly at No. 1, OReilly at No. 2 and Hannity at No. 3 with 340,000 in the demo.

(1,060 posts)Before anyone thinks I am cheering for any part of Fox News please understand that I do not even have TV coming into my house, but that I do pay close attention to the ratings. When you see Bill O'Reilly take a back seat to Megyn Kelly it means that he has been outsmarted (which isn't that hard to do) but it usually doesn't happen by a fellow Fox newscaster, especially during the prime time. My own belief is that Megyn Kelly is a very shrewd journalist who has figured out how to get ahead in this particular misogynist network.
Megyn Kellys interview with Dick Cheney propelled The Kelly File to be the #1 show in cable news among the A25-54 demographic Wednesday night. The program delivered 2,378,000 total viewers and 389,000 A25-54 viewers. My belief is that she blindsided both of the Cheneys with her questions about how Cheney was so wrong. That is not the de riguer of a Fox reporter.
Of course her other big coup was on election night when she commandeered the camera for 3 full minutes with a walk down to the Fox election center -
I don't watch Megyn Kelly---Rachel Maddow is my favorite and I see her on a web podcast. But I do study all network and cable tv to try to gauge what is going on.

(16,286 posts)As far as oreilly, i will never forgive him for polluting a close family members brain, he spews nothing but hate and ignorance but in a way that certain demographics just eat it up

(16,296 posts)vs. turd drying on a hot sidewalk. But, watching her gut Cheney was satisfying. Hoping that it signals a fresh breeze and with Neil Cavuto (barf) tough interview with Michelle Bachman , I do believe there might be something stirring in the winds.

they desperately need to get to the critical "money demographic" much younger and worth more to advertisers. For all of the media , if they can't get the viewer ---they are out of business--thank you Packman

(22,651 posts)How hard it must be for any reporter to get an exclusive interview with the President?
And then he spent that time on their fox-republican propaganda birther crap.

(1,060 posts)but these numbers that show him losing audience are more more important to him than anything else in the world-----Kelly is the enemy to him----everybody else including Obama take second place -----bill's ego is being bruised -----Hannity is already relegated to the 10pm slot---Kelly trounced him long ago

(22,651 posts)The republicans will probably change the name of their TV station if enough 'viewers' finally realize they are ignorant pawns, manipulated for the benefit of several dozen extremely wealthy people.

(1,060 posts)Bill blew a chance to build audience and market share -----he could have been much more engaging with Obama---it's not like he would lose audience ----the old white guys have no place else to go so he would not have lost them-------

(45,319 posts)Less than a million people, two hours of TV. Not impressive. More people watch reruns of Friends.
Second, this is exactly how on air talent of a certain age start the downfall. All politics aside. Bill is in his twilight time.
