Amid rumors of a gubernatorial bid, Delaney says he expects to run again for Congress

Amid rumors of a gubernatorial bid, Delaney says he expects to run again for Congress
By John Wagner, Saturday, January 25, 6:29 PM E-mail the writer

Rep. John K. Delaney (D-Md.) on Saturday addressed rumors that he is considering running for governor of Maryland by issuing a statement that did not categorically rule out the possibility out but said he expects to continue serving in Congress next year.

“Many people I trust and respect have asked me to consider running for governor, and of course I always think about where I may best serve,” Delaney said. “But I love my job, and my expectation is that I will continue to serve in Congress and represent my district.”

Three major Democratic candidates have been running for months in an increasingly bitter contest for the Democratic nomination: Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown (D), Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler (D) and Del. Heather R. Mizeur (D-Montgomery).

Speculation about a possible Delaney bid intensified two weeks ago following reports of a gubernatorial poll being conducted that included Delaney as an option. Delaney, a Montgomery County resident, would not comment on whether the poll was being conducted on his behalf.
