Rodney Lee Conover launched his campaign in California's 8th Congressional District with a video published on YouTube Thursday in which he compared House Republicans to his 1972 Ford Ranchero.
"Hi, I'm Rodney Lee Conover, and I'm running for Congress. This is my 1972 Ford Ranchero. I love this car. It's great," Conover says as he exits the car with a small dog at the beginning of the clip. "Problem is, it's old."
Conover, whose website indicates he's running as a Republican, goes on to compare the car to the House GOP.
"You know, I never thought I'd have to get another car, but like some Republicans in Congress, it's unreliable, just doesn't do what you want any more," Conover says. "Can't put the trust of your family in this car either because, at the most critical moment, don't know what it's going to do. I'm not a politician. I don't look at America through the lens of a politician. Politicians are ruining this country. You know that. The Republicans that are guilty, they got to go. ... It's nothing personal this was a great car in its day, but now she's old. It's got to be retired."
