Donating to the Obama website.

It's that time of the year and the campaign donation requests are coming in full force. I would like to donate to Obama. I think he's doing a wonderful job. But I'm afraid that he'll just send my money to Florida where it will be wasted on a race that has all the elements of inbred politics, which keeps us trapped in a 1950's backwater environment. It's just not the kind of thing that will advance Civil Rights causes.

Is there any way to ensure that our donations will only go to progressive candidates? I'm not even picky about the state.

About

Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) and its over 950,000 members nation-wide believe in fighting for bold progressive change. It’s not enough to agree with us on the issues we champion — heroes in Congress and candidates on the campaign trail that we support also believe in fighting for these values.

Founded in 2009 by Adam Green, a former MoveOn online organizer and Democratic party communications worker, and Stephanie Taylor, former MoveOn and SEIU organizer, the PCCC has been at the forefront fighting for progressive change ever since.

The Nation magazine awarded PCCC “Most Valuable Campaign” of 2011. MSNBC’s Ed Schultz calls PCCC “the top progressive group in the country.”...

directly, just make sure that the web page you make the contribution to is actually the one you've chosen, here in Wisconsin, a democrat running against Walker was spoofed by a repuglican website. Try to direct your contributions where they're needed the most.

Try this for starters

4. At least two races in Florida will help progressive issues

Alan Grayson is being targeted by right wing groups and needs money. As far as I know the national Democratic organizations are not helping him out.

The race I am most interesting in is Gwen Graham who is running to oust Steve Southerland, a leading tea party hack. Gwen Graham is the daughter of Bob Graham, former Florida Governor and Senator. While Gwen may not be as progressive/liberal as Alan Grayson, she will be infinitely better for my area, the state and the country than Southerland has been. Her father is a little more conservative than I like, but he always supported progressive ideals when it got down to brass tacks.

Southerland is running on his efforts to repeal the ACA and is proud of his tea party record. He is exactly the kind of person we need to get OUT of Congress.

All that said, I am not donating to any of the national Democratic organizations. They target their contributions to the races they think important - so will I. This year, all my campaign contributions will go to Gwen Graham. If I can, I will also volunteer time to her campaign.

If there was not a race so local to me and of the same importance, I would donate to the individual campaign. As I tell the OFA, DCCC, DSCC, and DNC when they call asking for money, I will be the one deciding where my money will go, not the top dogs in the organizations!

I haven't done all the usual vetting to see where she falls on progressive ideals, but I do think we need more of a minority presence locally.

6. Yes - The Florida Democratic Party has been abysmal on local races

They do not promote Democratic candidates much if at all. I'm in North Florida. While Leon County is a blue island, most of the rest of this area is red. So I want to help liberal candidates as much as possible, especially those from this area.

I don't know Orange County politics but my sister keeps my slightly informed about Hillsborough County. She's very active but she tends to not campaign and instead works the polls on election day.

7. If you donate there, watch out for the insta-donate button afterwards.

If you touch it, you will send more money with zero confirmation. It happened to me last election. My fault for clicking, yes, but I surely expected a reasonable confirmation popup before they hit my credit card.
