Carnival Cruz Still Blames Shutdown On Democrats

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Sunday placed blame for the government shutdown in October on Democratic leadership.

"I think it was absolutely a mistake for President Obama and Harry Reid to force a government shutdown," Cruz said during an interview with ABC's "This Week" at the infamous Capitol Hill restaurant Tortilla Coast.

Before the shutdown, Cruz prepared to blame Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) for the government closing if the Democrat refused to negotiate with Cruz on an Obamacare repeal.

In the interview with ABC, Cruz shrugged off a comment that House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) blamed conservative groups for the shutdown. "I can't help what other people say," Cruz said. He said that while Republicans tried to compromise, Democrats refused to. "Repeatedly Democrats said, 'No compromise. Shut it down,'" he said.

Cruz: I'm Trying To Ignore 'The Politics'

CAITLIN MACNEAL – DECEMBER 29, 2013, 10:26 AM EST

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Sunday said that he has been trying to avoid the politics of Washington, D.C.

"This is a city where it's all politics all the time, and I'm trying to do my best not to pay attention to the politics," he said in an interview with ABC's "This Week." "I know that's hard to believe, because no one in this town does that."

Cruz said that his goal is not to make friends in Congress, but to serve Texans, regardless of how his fellow lawmakers view him.

"This is a time for people to step up and do the right thing, and that's what I'm trying to do," he said. "Nobody should be surprised, if you're trying to change Washington that the Washington establishment pushes back."
