2016 Postmortem

I was on my way home ... listening to NPR's coverage of President Obama's Year End press conference. They got to the part, after talking about his intent to sign the Budget deal, where President Obama said that he wished that Congress had put in work on the U/C extension before going on vacation. Then he said, that he expected/suspected that Congress would get to work on it, as soon as they got back ... and a thought came to mind ... (Okay, here comes the bookmark part) ...
We will see a flood of "populace" legislation being introduced by Democrats starting in January and running through (and beyond) the 2014 Primaries! We will see a U/C extension bill, a hold harmless the veteran's retirement bill, a minimum wage raising bill, a comprehensive immigration bill, and possibly a strengthen SS bill (a la Elizabeth Warren).
And the timing couldn't be better for the 2014 elections (and the American people)!
Why? Because, with the "bi-partisan" budget deal behind us, it creates space for sitting Democrats to give themselves (and Democratic candidates) something concrete to campaign on, that separates the Democratic agenda from the republican agenda.
Further, introducing such legislation will pit the modern gop against the establishment gop in the primaries ... both of which are on the wrong side of the issues; but will deeply wound whichever goper wins in the primary.
I am beyond believing that this is just a coincidence ... Democrats have a plan.

(31,849 posts)if I'm wrong ... But it fits the pattern of just about everything that has occurred since late 2011. It's all about the long game ... or as detractors prefer, 11th Dimension chess.

(81,466 posts)Liking your predictions a LOT, 1StrongBlackMan! I hope it is indeed the long game. I've certainly been disappointed by our Dems before. I hope for all our sakes they're gonna show some brains, shrewdness, AND guts in the new year!

(31,849 posts)I think that some Democratic Congressman (that sits on the armed services committee) spark my thought when he was justifying his vote on the budget deal. The talking head he was speaking to raised the veteran retirement issue and he responded very matter of a factly that Congress (Democrats) could re-visit the issue, now that the budget was out of the way.
It's looking good!
