McCain: Comparing Obama To Chamberlain Was An 'Exaggeration'

CAITLIN MACNEAL – DECEMBER 15, 2013, 2:59 PM EST

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) on Sunday said that his comparison of President Obama's handshake with Cuban President Raul Castro to former British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain's handshake with Adolf Hitler was a "gross exaggeration."

"I think it was a gross exaggeration, but have no doubt that that was a great propaganda value for the Cuban government, which is oppressive, repressive and continues to jail dissidents, and continues to be ... easily the most oppressive government in our hemisphere," McCain said on CNN's "State of the Union." "I don't think he should shake hands with someone who continues to violate his own country's human rights."
