If he resigns, there's no telling what other extremist nut the GOP will replace him with. Boehner is literally the lesser of many evils right now.

He's going to remain speaker throughout the remaining 14 1/2 months left until Jan 3rd 2014. I believe he has stated he won't run for speaker again.
