2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWho are the "Millions harmed by Obamacare"?
I just heard a quote on the radio from some idiot (R) who said "There is nothing in this deal for the millions who are being harmed by Obamacare".
Who are the millions and how are they being harmed?
Apparently we have to fight every single meme out there from these vicious cry-babies.

(68,918 posts)I am being harmed by being able to purchase health insurance for $176/month instead of an unattainable $14-1500/month on a high risk policy with no dependents allowed.
My son is being harmed because I can cover him on that policy with me, instead of carrying temporary catastrophic coverage for $500/quarter.
I am being harmed because I'll be able to get my medications here in the U.S. instead of from India.
Harmful indeed.

(3,596 posts)now will have to pay a small tax if they don't purchase healthcare.
They don't care that when this person this is paying what a few hundred dollars in a tax/fine goes to the emergency room for his or her care, have no money or insurance, that the hospital provides the acute care at no charge BUT then passes that cost along to me.
I am being harmed by Obamacare not being in place.

(11,709 posts)...for health insurance than they currently do. This is a glitch can be fixed easily if the House leader (whoever that is next week) will allow a vote on it but that isn't likely.
So what will probably happen is the republicans will stop ACA from being fixed then scream that its broken. They did the same thing in 2010 over Medicare. Sadly, it worked for them.

(10,857 posts)Millions of dollars that would ordinarily travel without incident from sick Americans' accounts into rich peoples' pockets would be harmed by the ACA. These dollars are tragically turned back from their migratory route and forced to return to the pockets of poor, undeserving Americans.
For just the price of a cup of coffee a day, and their shortened lives, Americans can forego the opportunity to have health insurance, and once again restore the dollar-elevator-ecosystem which has made America so great since 2001.
Please, won't you help by voting against your own best interests?

That's what the jerk means.
He could not care less about workers losing hours, or losing their access to affordable health coverage.

(9,012 posts)Go back to Ted Cruz speech on the floor of the Senate during the vote to end the shutdown. (What a fucking demogogue)
Cruz mentioned "single moms" who have had their hours cut by their employers, "because of Obamacare."
He held up a letter allegedly to a person employed by a small business from an insurance company where the insurance company was canceling the insurance "because of Obamacare."
Something never mentioned, of course, is the fact that these people whose employers terminated their insurance just might find a better healthcare insurance deal on the exchange. Small businesses don't have a whole lot of pooling power. The Obamacare pool stands to be a whole lot bigger, and thus lower rates will ensue. It could actually be a GOOD thing that they lost their healthcare, because the ACA is primarily for those who do not have any health insurance.
But the GOP can't possibly suggest that those poor "millions who are being harmed by Obamacare" might be able to get better, cheaper coverage on the Obamacare exchanges, or it would defeat their own argument. Dems need to make that argument.
Yes, it appears that every single fucking meme and lie and distortion has to be countered with facts and repetition. Even so, more memes, lies and distortions will continue to be fabricated. Me? I just want to retire!!

(13,424 posts)According to them, it's always Obama's fault and they never propose any viable solution like a public option or single payer that would actually help all Americans.

(1,621 posts)Also, I find it funny that one of the Dems' concessions was the income verification part of the deal. Really, Republicans adding a layer of bureaucracy to a government program? Okay, I'll play along even though my employer sends in my income information and I send it in again at tax time.
We can't even get to the core issue of why health care costs so much and who gets the money. Let's verify the income of hospital administrators and insurance executives.

(81,267 posts)My son and my husband both have pre-existing conditions. The GOP's precious fucking "free market" kept them securely UNINSURED - until the Affordable Care Act came about. And whether or not our son has a pre-existing condition, we can still keep him covered under our policy til he's 26!
My son's band has a really terrific drummer. He's utterly and quite literally adorable! He's also a childhood cancer survivor. He and his family have been "harmed" by the Affordable Care Act's doing away with that damn pre-existing condition crap, AND allows his parents to keep him covered on their policy for another three years - til he can get on his feet and afford his own coverage (which will be substantially more affordable now, too)! "Harmed" big-time, 'eh?
If that's what being "harmed" is, then call me a masochist and give me MORE!
