2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Libertarian is polling at 12 percent in Va.
Cuccinelli is despised THAT MUCH. Not only for his sparkling personality but for his buddy Ted Cruz's shutdown, which is hammering both NoVa and the Tidewater region (Navy) hard.

Even in a hypothetical two-way race, McAuliffe still wins.

I am paying close attention to VA.
Even though I am a Marylander...

(59,503 posts)I am not sure of the two way race statement, as they could disproportionately go to Cuccinelli if they had to choose - the same with the undecideds. However the good news, is that it is not a 2 way race - it is a 3 way race. I suspect that as often is the case, fewer people will actually vote for the third party candidate than will say so in a poll. If he holds even 10%, McAuliffe will need only 1/8 of the undecideds to win.
My take on this - as Cuccinelli has had some very real problems is that even a pretty weak Democratic candidate will win -- and that is what McAuliffe is. I suspect that a Democrat as well liked in VA as Kaine or Warner would be over 50% at this point
