2:00 pm Eastern -- President Obama is to speak on the shutdown/default crisis.

He will be taking questions from reporters.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/10/08/obama-boehner-phone-call-shutdown-debt-ceiling/2944019/

President Obama called House Speaker John Boehner on Tuesday, again telling the Ohio Republican he will not negotiate on budget items until the GOP-run House ends the shutdown and raises the debt ceiling.

Obama also scheduled a White House statement on the budget shutdown for 2 p.m.; he will also take questions from reporters.

"The president is willing to negotiate with Republicans -- after the threat of government shutdown and default have been removed -- over policies that Republicans think would strengthen the country," said a White House readout of the 10:45 a.m. phone call to the House speaker.

The readout noted that Obama "repeated what he told (Boehner) when they met at the White House last week."

Hopefully he will join the 70% who believe the shutdown is the fault of the Repukes.

Oct 2013

Discussing Boner's refusal to "negotiate"

“I recognize that in today’s media age, being controversial, taking controversial positions, rallying the most extreme parts of your base — whether it’s left or right — is a lot of times the fastest way to get attention or raise money, but it’s not good for government. It’s not good for the people we’re supposed to be serving,” he said

Yep, that's us - just as extreme as Cruz.

You have to be in a fairly deranged mindset to believe that there is.

Not only is there nothing wrong with that quote, but its also true.

And It doesn't suggest anyone is as extreme as any particular person.

The ACA isn't perfect, for example. Many people here have pointed to the problem that people with employer based insurance don't have the option to use the exchanges if their family's total premium puts them well over 9% of income. I see no reason why this kind of change can't be attempted.

We should welcome any changes to the law that are actual improvements, and fight any that are not.

negotiating with terrorists on any level is a huge mistake. And if you think that the Repukes are going to somehow vote to EXPAND ACA, you might want to check your drinking water.
