2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI'm shopping ACA - Obamacare today.
Maybe we can share our stories here.
My premium, depending on which one of the 30 non-supplemented available to me, where my PCP is a member of the plan, would be between 54% of what I'm paying now or as high as 126% of what I'm paying now. And a plan that matches my current level of health insurance is 78% of what I'm paying now,...
i.e. if I choose a plan that is equal to or better than what I have now, I'll be saving money, not including the few more expensive plans I'm not interested in anyways. I'm looking to add benefits by choosing one of the Platinum plans, because I think it's smart for me to do so. Hey look at that! I'll still be saving $300/yr! A tax cut, if you will.
Thank you President Obama, and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. You show that government does work for the people and does benefit the people in a real, meaningful and direct way.
Rethugs whining on TV about premiums going up 77% is pure delusion on their behalf.

(31,389 posts)someone is going to do better (than an existing plan) depends upon
the state.
I've been hearing only negative stories out of NC--but that may be due to the fact
that the Repubs who took over the state refused to create an exchange and left
it up to the feds.

(22,670 posts)Why any state's elected officials would be so spiteful towards their population, in a democracy, is counter-intuitive.

Vote for Democrats. It's simple.
Tell your friends.
We MUST make it that way!

(8,515 posts)In Louisiana, Gov. Jindal has refused medicaid funds, even though they are free to Louisiana as well as other states. Stupidly, most of these states are takers. In other words, they get more money from the Government than they pay in taxes. I have had to go to the emergency room twice in a year, and both times there were people there who had no insurance. People with no insurance tend to wait until they are really sick before going to the ER for treatment, where they cannot be turned away. The hospital charges the people who have insurance more for their care to make up for the people they treat with no insurance. So, in effect, we, the taxpayers, and insured, are paying for those that are not insured.
It's a common problem and one of the reasons it costs more, is that by the time they go to the ER, the sick person is much worse off, and their care is more expensive.

(8,756 posts)The glitches are really annoying me. But since the Republicans shut down the government, I don't care. The roll out should be an albatross on the Dems neck, but it won't be thanks to the MENSA candidates in the GOP.

(2,049 posts)what coverage do you have now?
perhaps you can list a few of your better options.
I would like to try and plug-in
your situation and see what numbers I
am quoted.

This one has these features, that one has these other features. Pick the one that suites your needs best.
I'm still shopping. I have almost three more months to enroll, if I choose. I'm already insured, so I don't have to enroll.
But I will.

(22,670 posts)I knew that, but was thinking of open enrollment before the ACA goes into effect on 01/01/2014.
I stand corrected. Thank you.

(22,670 posts)While I was out shopping for coverages, I was shown out-of-ACA plans virtually identical to the one I'm on now, but the information was erroneous. My broker had to eat crow on that one. They couldn't explain where there numbers came from. For instance, the worst of the cost saving plans saved over $200/mos from what I'm paying now. It was too good to be true.
Anyway. I chose a Platinum plan that's less expensive than my current Gold plan, with a lower deductible than I have now, lower yearly deductible than I have now, and if I'm not mistaken, all the co-pays beat my old plan by material amounts. It's an impressive plan for someone like myself.
Yesterday my broker canceled my old plan effective 1/1/2014 as I am now enrolled in the Democrats ACA program, a.k.a. Obamacare.
