2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Executive Branch CANNOT accept a "dirty" Continuing Resolution.
Period.
At one level, this is a constitutional crisis because the Republicans are actually trying to circumvent the process we use to negotiate and implement laws.
At the risk of repeating the obvious (as stated by multitudes):
-- The law was enacted by Congress.
-- The law was signed by the President.
-- The law was affirmed by the Supreme Court.
BONUS:
-- The presidential candidate who wanted to change the law LOST.
A couple of dozen newly elected representatives don't get to change our legal process by refusing to fund the government just because they don't like ANY of our many law; if they want to change something, they have to follow the same process everyone else does. So far they haven't been able to do it, which means not enough people think what they want is a good idea.
This technique of "shutting down the government" is inappropriate; should Obama refuse to sign any continuing resolution they send unless his judges are approved for office? (Wait-a-minute...lol!)
Regardless, I would be saying the same thing no matter which side was trying this unconstitutional stunt.
I said it well in another thread, so I'm going to quote myself:
"This time it is Obamacare. Next time it is a rider saying women can't use contraception and anyone who gets an abortion gets to go to jail, and after that it is about the uppity lower class getting money for college, and then forget about that crazy equal rights thing --
Get it? The Executive Branch can NOT govern that way."
If those "newly elected representative" don't like the way we do things in this country, maybe they should leave.
I hope the door doesn't hit them in the ass on their way out.

(10,559 posts)demanding "negotiation" while thus far the Executive Branch is refusing to negotiate while the government is shut down?
Nope, other than that it has been a quiet week.
Oh, the Obamacare health exchanges opened up on Tuesday - that was kind of exciting.
This post is simply a repeat of the major reasons to continue supporting President Obama's "no negotiation" stance.

(3,539 posts)It will truly become government by the corporation. The next time could be that women can't use contraception or it could easily be repeal of the minimum wage law. Another item on GOP co.'s wish list.
Their is little difference between laws set down by the whim of a dictator or laws set down by the whim of the moneyed interests.
It is clear that the ACA will harm some multinationals bottom line. Look only at the amount of money spent on propaganda to prevent it.
By the same token "christan" mega churches also provide considerable cash flow to the corrupt. What form of "christianity" might become our national religion in order for the country to pay it's debts?
Hard to believe? Money talks!

(10,559 posts)Hopefully the President who is also a constitutional scholar "gets it" and can get the media to explain it appropriately!
