As a civil servant I took an oath, an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I swore that I would bear true faith and allegiance to the same and that I did this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion. I agreed to faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I was about to enter. So help me God.
As I sit here watching the events of yesterday unfold on my television, that oath that I originally took 34 years ago sprung into my thoughts. How can what the House has done honestly been in the best interest of this nation? How can any one of the Representatives that voted for each of those bills that were sent to the Senate only to be returned, how can they honestly say that they were faithfully discharging their duties of office? What they have done, by NOT voting on the Senates CR has harmed our economy and the lives of thousands of Americans, Americans that will now have to once again scramble to pay the rent or mortgage, to put food on their tables and clothes on the backs of their families. How many more sacrifices will the people of this nation have to endure while the House continues with their agenda, an agenda with no end and meant to shake the very foundation of our economy. The debt ceiling will soon be upon us and I pray their insane agenda will not cause a breach and subsequent economic collapse.
I urge each and every one of you to contact your representatives in the next few days and hold them to task. Make them end this standoff for the good of all and the good of the nation.
Let me close with this thought. As John F Kennedy once said, Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.

(86,636 posts)actually send each one of these clowns an email reciting their oath of office. I have taken that oath more than once and administered it to others and I meant it every time.
I agree with your call to action and thank you for bringing it up in this forum. Perhaps it could be the text of a petition; that each of these anti-Americans should be held accountable for acting in direct opposition to the oath they took. They have certainly violated the oath and should be held accountable for doing so while in office acting in an official capacity via litigation.
It would be worth the price to the taxpayers, and especially if they were found guilty and had to forfeit all of their wages and pensions retroactive to the point in time that they took said oath to the point in time where they are removed from office.

(31,390 posts)It really seems to us that the actions of the Repubs--in refusing to acknowledge the ACA as
the law of the land--is treasonous.
