Related: About this forumSenate race between crazy ass Lonegan and Booker CLOSER than expected
I told democrats before this race don't get to comfortable with Booker as a shoo in the rethugs like the Coak brothers will spend millions to try and get Lonegan elected http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2013/09/poll_shows_tighter_senate_race_between_booker_and_lonegan_than_expected.html#incart_m-rpt-1

(31,917 posts)But I suspect there are still some folks that haven't gotten over Pallone or Holt being the nominee that might not be showing the enthusiasm that the rest of America has for Booker. At the end of the day - every single one of them is going to go out and vote for Booker (Myself included - Pallone was my pick).

(20,450 posts)from there back to Atlanta where we're all originally from. They all view Cory as an opportunist. I like him, but I just can't get over when he defended Mitt Romney and Bain Capital. There simply was no excuse for that. None at all.

(13,877 posts)candidate, in addition to the overt ones, there are still those regardless of even a well-meaning public position and/or polling answers who, behind the cover of the voting booth, revert to inbred fears.

(9,612 posts)New Jersey hasn't elected a Republican Senator since Case, but we have elected conservative Senators: Corzine and Menendez. And we're going to elect a conservative next month named Cory Booker.
The choice the past couple elections hasn't been liberal vs. conservative, it's been conservative vs. batshit, and we have no choice but to elect the conservative.
What has become of my party?
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,438 posts)On the economic front, he seems like a "moderate" (not much different than many current Senate Dems) but his position on social issues seem progressive/liberal.

(9,612 posts)since the word "conservative" has been co-opted by the batshit insane.
His economic policy is conservative corporatist, as is Menendez, as was Corzine.
The only saving grace is he's not as far right as Lonegan.
We need to take our party back from these "moderates."

(31,917 posts)Wall Streety and Corporation Like and I personally felt he wouldn't be as focused on the middle and more important - blue collar/working class. I don't think he has one iota of insight into the type of business my husband runs - and those in our circle of friends. Not pro union and I don't trust him with Public Educaiton. But at the end of the day he will vote for a pro-choice SCOTUS nominee so you hold your nose there . . . and press the button there.
ETA - a strong indicator is that NYC area is all agog over him . . . .Lots of money coming from NY for this candidate.

(59,505 posts)which is credible in most places, has long been an outlier in NJ. They showed Bush/Kerry close - when it never was. In 2005, it showed Corzine/Forrester (I think) a toss up - instead it was a pretty big win. They actually showed Kean Jr ahead of Menendez - when Menendez was never behind in internal polls. I have - in all those years - never seen a NJ state wide race where Quinnipiac over-estimated the Democrats. That means there likely is a systemic bias caused by their model.
They are a very competent company, but there has to be something wrong in their NJ likely voter model. It could be as simple as ignoring that the Democrats in the big cities have a very good GOTV - and the Republicans are less good. Their model - looking just at the voters - might eliminate too many of the iffier Democrats.
At any rate, this is a 12 % difference. That does not mean that it should not be contested as if we were down.

I would still be suprised if Lonegan won. Lonegan belongs in a dark red rural teakook district.
