Rubio: Obama Should Stop Threatening Government Shutdown

IGOR BOBIC – SEPTEMBER 18, 2013, 3:26 PM EDT

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) thinks President Barack Obama is the one who should stop threatening to shut down the government, despite a newly announced plan by House Republicans adding language to a stopgap measure that would defund Obamacare in order to avert a government shutdown.

“The American people have made clear they want Washington to keep the government open but also need protection from ObamaCare’s harmful effects," Rubio said in a statement. "Today’s announcement would accomplish what the American people have been asking of Congress."

“A solution is within sight in order to avert another crisis of Washington’s creation," he added. "President Obama and his allies in Congress should abandon their threats of shutting down the government and instead work with Republicans to pass this proposal that would keep government open while preventing taxpayer dollars from being used to inflict ObamaCare’s damage on people’s jobs, incomes, current health plans and doctor relationships.”

19. Delusional Disorder
Thu Sep 19, 2013, 12:54 PM
Sep 2013
This psychotic mental disorder is diagnosed when prominent nonbizarre delusions are present for at least one month and the symptom criteria for Schizophrenia have never been met. Hallucinations may be present, but auditory or visual hallucinations cannot be prominent. Olfactory or tactile hallucinations may be prominent, but only if they are related to the content of the delusion. Psychosocial functioning may not be impaired and any co-occurring mood episodes must be of relatively brief duration.

And no, I don't think the delusion in question is the belief that Obama is shutting it down. The delusion lies in the belief that they can actually sell this steaming pile to the public.

They want to take the country and government hostage to get their way , defunding Obamacare and then blame Obama for a government shutdown.

That is all this is - pure fiction on his part. You can posture, you can pose, Rubio, but in the end people know that it's you Repugs that are shutting down the government because you want to destroy Obama's biggest accomplishment. This is nothing about principal or people - it's all about pique and fuck you's to the people in America for not voting the way Rubio and his ilk wanted. They make me totally sick!

Obama should just drop the 14th on them and walk away. He's sounding good now, but in the past he has not been stalwart. Obama, you have the winning hand, DO NOT FOLD, DO NOT NEGOTIATE. YOU WILL WIN FOR US!! The 1%ers won't let the Repugs hurt them, they are the masters of those pols, after all.

So they should not be coupled, end of story. Since the President does not have a line item veto he cannot veto just the line item related to the Affordable Care Act and must veto the entire bill, should the bill get to the President's desk (which will never happen). Anybody with half a brain will know that it is Rubio and the Republicans that are shutting down the government by attaching an unrelated poison pill amendment to the debt ceiling bill. Even Ted Cruz knows that.

there are others across the land who have not. These clowns are attempting to confuse them and create an air of innocence for themselves. They started the fire and are now attempting to point the finger away from themselves to a by-stander. Oh and if they inflict damage on the President in the process, so much the better.

This has to be a limited run and they know it. They are making hay while the sun shines, as the saying goes. In pretty short order the rest of their party is going to get tired of their shenanigans and will drop the hammer on them. (Indeed, I already heard rumblings this morning on the news that the rest of the Republican Party is running out of patience with them.) But meanwhile, they are setting up websites and running ads on TV and the internet all of which are designed for two things: MONEY for their campaigns and names for their mailing lists.

No one should take these people seriously but there are plenty who know just enough to believe the fairy tale that "Obama wants to shut down the government." Their lie works for them...at least for a while.

You are accusing the President of threatening to shutdown the government because the Republicans in the House want to attach language that would completely scrap the healthcare plan that was passed years ago. A healthcare law that has been upheld by Congress, the US Supreme Court, and is has a favorable rating among the people of the country. Your party is not willing to pass a budge or a CR that is free from language on the healthcare plan, but instead is purposefully engaging in a fight that you know will lead to the shut down of the government. Who is threatening whom?
