We might, possibly, gain a majority with D's after their name, but that doesn't equal votes. bluedigger Apr 2012 #19

and people are much more fired up now to come out and vote for Democrats, thanks to Republican policies in their states that's shown their true colors.

to want more pain inflicted upon them. They haven't learned any lessons from 12 years of Republican power. They want MORE, not less, hardship before they stop voting for Republicans.

I'm not optimistic because whenever I go there I'm woefully disappointed.
Now, if I were to think those goddammed rubes will win again I might have reason for optimism..
Does that make any sense?

while the recent light on alec have brought out a lot of the slimy practices... the fact remains that Republican legislatures, and governors have passed truly draconian laws this election cycle.. while they will in fact finally be eclipsed, by demographics beyond Republican control, they can have a disastrous consequences in 2012..

the biggest etc.. is citizens united.. it makes the whole election cycle a casino financed by a few multi billionairs..

gee how can we loose... I'm voting early because i can, and will work the campaign however i can carrying an oxygen tank..

Two things are hurting us:

1) The net population shift from blue areas to red areas over the last decade; and

2) The success the GOP had in taking statehouses in 2010, giving them greater control over redistricting.

That's going to have a greater impact than anything else. As for the pronouncements of Hoyer and Boehner, remember that the narrative that GOP control of the House is in danger serves both parties, and for the same reason: it helps turn out the bases.

That being said, I'd be delighted to be wrong about this.

Absolutely yes, If we rally as a Democratic Party! This is a Call To Arms!

Say it loud, I’m a Democrat and I’m Proud

Democratic Party Rally Song

Say it loud: I’m a democrat and I’m proud!

Say it loud: I’m a democrat and I’m proud!

Some people say I’m a liberal because I look ahead and not behind

Because I welcome new ideas and try to be gentle and kind

Some criticize me because I have different ideology

But I’m also a loyal American, for that I make no apology

We have arguments about pro-life and pro-choice

It is my belief that every woman should have a voice

Say it loud: I’m a democrat and I’m proud!

Say it loud: I’m a democrat and I’m proud!

One more time!

Say it loud: I’m a democrat and I’m proud!

Don’t say that I’m not a Christian because I don’t do as you do

Don’t decide what is good for me and I won’t decide what is good for you

Most democrats believe in God and try to do as he commands

It is not your position to decide where we stand

I’m someone who believes we can work through the stalemate

I believe in compromise and I’m not driven by hate

Say it loud: I’m a democrat and I’m proud!

Say it loud: I’m a democrat and I’m proud!

Say it loud: I’m a democrat and I’m proud!

Say it loud: I’m a democrat and I’m proud!

Of course, I would prefer a democrat as our president

But, no matter which political party, I pray that he be heaven sent

I’m a proud democrat, loyal American, well educated and motivated

I will stand up for my beliefs and will not be intimidated

I hear many in the GOP say we need to take our country back

Well, this country belongs to me too, and that is a fact

Say it loud: I’m a democrat and I’m proud!

Say it loud: I’m a democrat and I’m proud!

Say it loud: I’m a democrat and I’m proud!

Say it loud: I’m a democrat and I’m proud!

is that the GOP has 214 safe seats, we have 172 safe seats, and 49 seats are in play; that means we have to defend 21 seats and while the GOP has to defend 28, giving us a slight advantage. Still, we'd have to swing 46 of the 49 to take the House; that's a pretty tall order, though not unheard-of.

I think that the GOP's majority in the House will shrink.

Unfortunately, there's a pretty good chance that they will pick up a couple seats in the Senate though...

Unfettered corporate cash, redistricting and voter disenfranchising will have an effect; it remains to be seen just how big the effect will be.

It won't happen by magic. Thankfully, most of us here are activists. Can't tell you how much I appreciate you all. To the ones who can't get out and knock on doors, thanks for keeping everyone's spirits up. That's important, too, and it will become more and more vital as it gets closer to November when people are dead tired.

And having a Democratic Speaker of the House would give us more control of many things that we have no control over at the present time.
