New poll: Support for consititutional marriage amendment slipping

http://projects.newsobserver.com/under_the_dome/new_poll_support_for_consititutional_marriage_amendment_slipping

The constitutional amendment on marriage appears poised to pass, but a new poll shows support slipping two weeks before the May 8 primary.

The Public Policy Polling survey released Tuesday shows 54 percent of primary voters support making marriage between one man and one woman the only legal union recognized in North Carolina -- a four-percentage-point drop from a month ago.

Black voters favor the amendment two-to-one and even Democratic primary voters are split evenly. The referendum needs a majority for approval.

The survey shows more primary voters are starting to understand the amendment would ban gay marriage and civil unions. But 10 percent still erroneously think it legalizes gay marriage and another 27 percent are unsure what it would do.

Some people are just uncomfortable with physical aspects of homosexuality.

I don't share that opinion, but I think it needs to be acknowledged.

I wish I know how to counter it.

who are Democrats that support this amendment?

I would be really interested in understanding your rational.

My assumption of course is that it purely religious bigotry.

(yes, I dare go there into politics - can't help it since my truck has all these DU and Obama and Turn Fox Off stickers)....and there has been uniform outrage at the Amendment. I would also be very interested in knowing how/why any Dems anywhere could possibly support this amendment.
