Gov. Rick Perry Will Not Seek Reelection

PERRY STEIN 2:25 PM EDT, MONDAY JULY 8, 2013

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) announced Monday that he would not seek an unprecedented fourth full gubernatorial term. He previously served as George W. Bush's lieutenant governor for the state, taking over the governor's mansion in 2000, when Bush resigned to become president. He has since been elected for the state's top post three times.

But Perry, who made an unsuccessful bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, left the door open Monday for a 2016 presidential run, saying that he would spend the remainder of his term leading "this great state" and praying and reflecting to "determine my own future path."

"I will arrive at that decision appropriately," he said.

Perry touted his own accomplishments as governor and called his position the "greatest job in modern politics."

It's going to be Greg Abbott! “I go into the office, I sue the federal government and I go home.”

Unfortunately Davis has no chance. Texas is not even close to purple yet.

He's Rick Perry, without the compassion or charm.

....would certainly be the lesser of two evils. Let's face it Kay Bailey would never get the repub nomination today but she would stomp Abbott or any other far right candidate into the ground in a general election if she would grow a pair and abandon the party label. I'll take an old school moderate right R over what the current wingnuts would nominate any day and believe most of the state would too. And without having to kiss the Republican ring it would let them govern more towards the center, no stupid special sessions on abortion etc.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry announced yesterday that he would not seek reëlection, telling supporters, “The time has come to pass the mantle of leadership to a new generation of boneheads.”

“I’ve had a good run,” he said. “But after twelve years, someone else who isn’t playing with a full deck should take a turn at the wheel.”
