Senate immigration bill would lead to net savings of 135 billion: CBO

WASHINGTON | Wed Jul 3, 2013 11:56am EDT

(Reuters) - The Senate's sweeping immigration bill would significantly increase the size of the country's labor force and lead to net savings of around $135 billion over 10 years, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office said in a report released on Wednesday.

If the bill became law, the CBO said the policies would lead to a net increase of 9.6 million people living in the United States. The Senate passed the immigration bill at the end of June but the fate of the legislation is unclear in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

Both chambers must pass the same legislation before it can become law.

I'm really skeptical about anything getting done between now and 2016 davidpdx Jul 2013 #1
Best guess: Cantor will blame it on Obamacare. JM42 Jul 2013 #2

If we did well in 2014 our odds would improve, especially if we retook the House. The current makeup of the House majority are lunatics. In the Senate it depends on how well the Rs can hold their caucus together. They can afford to lose a few and still manage to keep things at a stalemate.
