Democrat Slams Issa’s ‘McCarthyite tactic’ of Stripping of 5th Amendment Rights

Democrat Slams Issa’s ‘McCarthyite tactic’ of Stripping of 5th Amendment Rights

What are your Republican representatives up to this Friday? Oh, nothing much – just stripping away a few more constitutional rights. The usual, you might think — only this time, they’re stripping the Fifth Amendment rights from someone with Republican affiliations, so that’s a fresh take on their liberty-theft theme.

On Friday, Darrell Issa’s House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted along party lines to strip IRS official Lois Lerner of her Fifth Amendment rights on the grounds that she waived them when she asserted her innocence before she pleaded the Fifth.

One must be very careful these days when dealing with Republican “lawmakers”.

Democrats were distressed, as this is not a good precedent to set for a civilized/modern society, leading Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) to elaborate while voting, “No, I’m voting no to this McCarthyite tactic.”

“Who are we in this committee to take away anyone’s Constitutional rights?” asked Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV), according to NBC’s First Read. Well, Sir, ask the party in charge who y’all are to take away Constitutional rights. From voting rights to women’s bodies, Republicans are big on taking away legally protected rights and individual freedoms.

...is because they are HER rights. Issa seems to be acting in a manner we are all too familiar with lately. The republican expectation of female servitude.

I suspect that Chairbottom Issa is feeling desperate now. He has made promises to the republican base he couldn't keep. He repeatedly made claims of evidence, intent, and responsibility, everyone of them were premature. He has promised blood for so long, now the circus won't rest until it gets blood. It will be satisfied with his.
In his increasingly mad attempts to save face, he will throw anyone under the bus.

The Constitution, that little old thing that you swore an oath to uphold when you took office!

Way to go Darrell!

According to Issa Lerner gave up her 5th amendment rights by pleading innocence to the crimes Issa is accusing her of. So what if cops and prosecutors applied the same standard to people accused of crimes?

Judge: How do you plead?
Defendant: Not guilty.
Prosecutor: Ah ha! Judge I call the Defendant to the witness stand.
Defendant: But I have my 5th amendment rights to avoid self incrimination, I chose not to take the stand.
Prosecutor: You already waived those rights by proclaiming your innocence to the judge!
Judge: He's right, you have to take the stand, and if you lie and say you aren't guilty when you are then we'll charge you with lying under oath to.
Defendant: But they don't even have a single piece of evidence against me.
Prosecutor: Well now we do! Now sit in the witness stand and confess!
