2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAnybody else detecting a note of palpable euphoria among right-wingers right now?
They seem to be swarming the message/comment boards for news sites, blog sites, etc. with some of the most vile, hateful, racist, anti-Obama rhetoric, gleefully declaring that the end is nigh for President Obama and Democrats. I know that in some corners there's always been a similar segment of people constantly trolling the internet with their rabid bile but they seemed to have multiplied exponentially in response to the recent furor over Benghazi, the IRS, AP, etc. Anybody else notice? I'd caution everybody away particularly from sites like Politico. It's just.......bad out there right now, pretty much anyplace but DU.

(60,019 posts)And it seems to me that it began the moment Obama was declared the victor in 2008. It actually drove me off Facebook - and if it has accelerated in intensity, it is nothing new.

(13,485 posts)Trolls who are good at what they do get paid to post bogus info. Some who are not good at it get paid as well. We know who the money bags are who pay for misinformation and these are relatively small amounts that can pack a slow wallop of sludge if your audience is stupid enough and are looking for the kind of affirmation this stuff supplies. The propaganda becomes exponential.

(4,713 posts)What is wrong with these people? They are like a bunch of rabid dogs. Would you believe I had someone tell me today that Obamacare is going to exclude all Republicans from getting healthcare? So of course I asked him if it was a plot to they make him sick so they could confiscate his guns then lock him up in a FEMA Camp & he said only if "they" let it get that far.
So of course I told him he should use his healthcare to see a shrink ASAP because chronic paranoia is very dangerous, which somehow led me to having my head in the sand, stocking up on granola, & playing with unicorns.
This craziness is really going beyond haha funny they are all batshit crazy to holy shit they have all lost their damn minds.

(26,060 posts)It's gotten to where I don't even try and reason with wingers. I just laugh at them - I have found that to be really effective if I'm trying to piss them off. Point and laugh.....like it's the circus. Welcome to DU.

(24,437 posts)A lot of these delusional souls believe that the media has finally unmasked President Obama for the liar, crook, elitist, murderer (he let those people die in Benghazi don't you know?) etc. that THEY *know* that he is and that it is only a matter of time before he is impeached and sent packing ignominiously and disgraced. It is, of course, wrong and hopelessly deluded but the "fever" that President Obama previously spoke of prior to his second inauguration has not only NOT broken but actually seems to be spiking. It's horrifying the way some of these people talk and think.

(60,019 posts)horrifying indeed - and somehow they mix their hatred with their so-called "religion".
sick.

(24,437 posts)I don't believe that racism is the be all end all of right-wing opposition to President Obama but I also believe that it is part of it to some degree

(4,713 posts)The last explanation involved Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, & communism. I'm a crim law person so picking the brains of weirdos is kinda what I do. But for the most part I think most of them have been so packed full of hate & fear by the media & their congressional reps that their brains have been turned into rotten, stagnant, old diapers.
If you actually read some of these Senators twitters they literally lie all day long. At some point you would think a line would be drawn but sadly no.

(46,416 posts)that Joe Biden is going to be President because the "Teflon President" is going to be removed from office. I am not allowed to make political statements at work (government job), and I wasn't about to get sucked in to a Limbaugh/Fox/Beck swirling vortex of baseless nonsense anyway, but they really are overjoyed. It's weird--I never hated anyone that much, not even Boosh who killed 4000+ American soldiers and wrecked America for at least a decade. But it's going to be satisfying when Obama is still President, because he didn't really do anything wrong.

(24,437 posts)I will relish watching that stick in their craw for the next 3+ years and drive them even more insane. Part of me hopes that they decide to go for the full monty and launch a full-force impeachment effort sometime before the midterms next year.

(2,529 posts)That's the advice I'd give to wingers. I've been on a few sites myself and it's the counsel I've been handing out to them. They don't like hearing it, but it's true. The day after Clinton's impeachment, his popularity rating went over 80%. At a poll taken last year during the Democratic Convention, his popularity was at 66%. Impeaching a president backfired on Republicans badly before. Right now, this crew of idiots has a favorability rating lower than head lice. If they go ahead and force the country into a sham of an impeachment proceeding, it won't be pretty for them.

(10,893 posts)There's not much new here aside from what's going on in D.C. with Benghazi and the IRS. I just ignore them because they're basically like parrots; they repeat the same anti-Obama and anti-progressive BS over and over, regardless of how widely-debunked it is.
