By Jackie Kucinich
George P. Bush hopes dissatisfaction with the Obama White House will help him draw young professionals to become donors and activists in the Republican Party.
The grandson of former president George H.W. Bush and son of former Florida governor Jeb Bush, the younger Bush is setting up chapters of his Texas-based Maverick PAC in several key swing states to try to mobilize young Republicans.
Bush's group is one of several Republican efforts underway to try to peel away parts of the coalition that helped Barack Obama win the presidency in 2008 and organizers pledge each is bigger and more thorough than in years past.
Women, Hispanics and young voters are among the demographic groups where Obama beat Sen. John McCain last cycle and areas where many Republicans believe they can pull disaffected voters into their camp come November.
The Obama campaign has no intention of ceding those groups that helped it win the White House, and have a number of micro-targeting operations of its own. The Obama campaign website has separate pages for women, youth, "Jewish Americans," and more.

(45,274 posts)1) George P. Bush might be a hunkalicious young Republican, but he still seems a bit creepy. So TSG wasn't too surprised to learn that "P" was involved ina troubling 1994 incident described in this Metro-Dade Police Department report. On December 31, 1994, Bushs howed up at 4 AM at the Miami home of a former girlfriend. He proceeded to break into the house via the woman's bedroom window, and then began arguing with his ex's father. Bush, then a Rice University student, soon fled the scene. But he returned 20 minutes later to drive his Ford Explorer across the home's front lawn, leaving wide swaths of burned grass in his wake. Young Bush avoided arrest when the victims declined to press charges. (3 pages)

And, concerning his sibs, this--
John (Jebby) Ellis Bush, 21, the youngest son of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (and the President's nephew), was arrested yesterday and charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest.
He was later released on a $2,500 bond for the resisting arrest charge, and on a personal recognizance bond for the public intoxication charge.
Jeb Bush told reporters later at a museum reception in Miami "My sons doing fine" and that Its a private matter and added "..Im not going to discuss it on the public square with 30 cameras"
Just over two and a half years ago his daughter, Noelle Bush, was also arrested and accused of trying to obtain the anti-anxiety drug Xanax with a fraudulent prescription. The drug charges against her were dropped after she completed a drug rehabilitation program.
Florida Gov. Bush's family have often had problems with the law, Jeb Bush Jr. was caught a few years ago with an an underaged female in a vehicle (both were naked from the waist down). On another occasion (according to reports) George P. Bush broke into the bedroom window of a former girlfriend, and though he eventually fled the scene, he later returned to drive his Ford Explorer across the family's lawn.
Noelle Bush has reportedly received at least seven speeding tickets, committed five other traffic violations and been involved in numerous car accidents.

(5,061 posts)It's wasted effort. They would have an easier time at voter suppression than actually convincing these folks to support Rmoney.

(16,989 posts)The party of the Blunt amendment, squeezing the middle class on home and education loans, and "Show us your papers" ought not to fantasize about its chances with said groups.

(5,061 posts)Which is very real. I think very many middle class women who had assumed that Roe & Griswold were utterly safe and who were therefore free to vote for the GOP must now wonder with all the talk of defunding Planned Parenthood etc., whether they can vote Republican. No one wants to go back to the era of 6-12 kids per couple.
And younger people have seen the GOP in power for pretty much their entire lifetimes. They've seen how their program has worked, and many realize it's not working for them.
But mainly it's the aging out of the population of the folks I call the "George Wallace crowd." 2010 was the last electoral gasp of that demographic, older conservatives who are pretty unreconstructed.

News flash, guys: My generation HATES the social conservatism crap, and most of us are smart enough to know that if we get in bed with you that the Christian Right is gonna be our bunkmate.

(24,445 posts)They haven't supported anything that's going to help anybody but the wealthy. Their basic message seems to be: "Don't vote for President Obama because he hasn't fixed everything yet or had an opportunity to address everything he promised during his 2008 campaign."- leaving out the crucial facts that they stonewalled and/or obstructed a pretty hefty amount of his proposed agenda from 2009-2010, as well as another initiatives that may have helped the economy recover better/faster. Pretty much all of 2011 was spent with the Republicans cutting social programs and threatening to force the government to shut down and default on its debts, not to mention ramming through so much regressive anti-women, anti-anybody-but-the-rich legislation (which has continued into this year as well) at the state, local, and federal level.
