National Republicans may be pulling out of Mark Sanford's race against Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch for South Carolina's open 1st District, but tea party group FreedomWorks is jumping into the fray.
"Mark Sanford will be a consistent vote to get spending under control, pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, repeal and replace ObamaCare, and make the tax code fairer and simpler for all Americans," Matt Kibbe, president of Freedomworks PAC, said in a statement Tuesday. "FreedomWorks PAC activists across the District support Mark Sanford and we will be taking action in this final week to make sure Mark Sanford represents District 1 taxpayers in Washington.
The NRCC withdrew their support for Sanford this month after trespassing charges brought by his ex-wife came to light. Sanford is scheduled to appear in court over the matter shortly after the May 7 election.

Rand Paul Endorses Mark Sanford
DAVID TAINTOR 1:23 PM EDT, TUESDAY APRIL 30, 2013
Sen. Rand Paul has endorsed former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) in the state's special congressional election, USA Today reported on Tuesday.
"More than anything, Washington needs strong and consistent voices for fiscal responsibility and liberty," Paul said in a statement. "Mark has proven during his time in office that watching out for taxpayers and holding the line on spending are his top priorities."
The tea party group FreedomWorks on Tuesday also endorsed Sanford. And according to USA Today, former Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), Rand's father, endorsed the former governor last week.
Sanford and his opponent, Elizabeth Colbert Busch, met for a debate on Tuesday, which got personal when Colbert Busch called out Sanford for his 2009 affair.

(16,993 posts)That's what Mark Sanford is, a thief. He stole from the taxpayers of South Carolina when he used public funds to go cheat on his wife.
Sanford had to reimburse taxpayers for his crime, and paid a hefty fine as well.
So, I would expect a cockroach like Rand Paul and the Tea Party to endorse such a fine, upstanding man, who left his wife at home to care for their four children while he went off whoring around in a foreign country. Nice guy. A stellar example of (right wing) family values.
Add dereliction of duty because when he went a-whoring, NO ONE knew where he was. Not the Lt. Governor, not the State Police... NO ONE.
Had we had a state emergency, it would have been a mess.
He is such a POS, but sadly there are congenital repukes here who will vote for anything with an R beside his/her name
