All I can say is, I asked my husband, I wonder if we can just keep him (Obama).
In office.
He has an unbelievable knack for saying just the right thing.

(4,309 posts)I saw his comments and they were moving and inspirational. I'm so glad this country made the right decision in the election!

(53,032 posts)diss saying the President had done really badly and couldn't even bother to look in the teleprompter. I thought maybe it was a troll, but the person had a zillion posts. I watched the President's remarks and he seemed fine.

(25,471 posts)Maybe the person who posted that didn't even bother to watch it.

(10,893 posts)is how the Right actually got away with branding him with as the perennial teleprompter user, even though all of their candidates for president ALSO used them. Romney used a teleprompter. Ron Paul used a teleprompter. Santorum used a teleprompter. Even Reagan and Bush ll used one.
This is why I have no more respect for America's "conservatives"; they try to divert from the real issues and criticize the other side for everything they do themselves.
Cha
(297,222 posts)teleprompter when talking about the wrapup of the Boston terrorists and Texas. The long time poster who was whining about that was full of it.
I'm sure he'll use it again when he finds it necessary.

(31,849 posts)it was ... Well ... I'll just say, go back and search that long-time poster's posts; divide them into like categories ... you find three distinct categories: Anti-President Obama posts, President Obama neutral posts and off-topic posts; never any President Obama postive posts.
BainsBane
(53,032 posts)probably because I don't open the anti-Obama threads. I recall the person had like 35,000 posts.

(31,849 posts)I would name the name, if I did not believe he would whine and get me booted for calling out another DUer. But the number sounds about right.

(53,661 posts)his speech at the cathedral was also pitch perfect.Patrick was also good. I already knew the Watertown police dept. was a good operation ( competent and civilized, impressive for a small suburb of only 30,000), and, with the help of the Boston police and the FBI, they came through.
I thought that the whole operation was handled very well. The whole tone of the operation was about getting the job done, and, as the president said, getting it done right. I felt proud of Boston, of Massachusetts, and of the president.

(3,502 posts)I don't think he's like Bill. I don't get the impression that he'd be happy to be president forever. I don't want to see him age another ten years in four. OTOH, I will miss him very much when his term is done, and that's if the next Pres is a Dem. If it's a Republican, it'll be pretty much despair.

(36,392 posts)So another term is unlikely to help. He gives a great speech, but is a terrible at taking on the right wing. It doesn't matter how long he's in charge if he's moving us in the wrong direction.

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.
Section 2. This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years from the date of its submission to the States by the Congress.

(17,493 posts)I simply explained what was necessary.
Obama might or might not be interested in a third term if it was possible. Much would depend on how much support he would have in 2015. A strong economy at that time would garner that support.
freshwest
(53,661 posts)The country is so batshit RW now it'd never be done. With the regular swing to the other party every eight years, I dread to think what awaits us in 2016. And the economy is still in a state of transition and the GOP and their media will continue to smear everything he does. And the economy has and will keep suffering from obstruction, and reorganizing. Many people are doing well and quite happy with things as they are, but they don't make the news.
Cha
(297,222 posts)that this was the last time he would be doing this. End of Story.

(17,493 posts)both parties work together to pass legislation to improve our nation. I am old enough to remember a time when we did.
Much of the blame for this can be laid at the feet of the Tea Party.

(17,493 posts)Placing a limit on the number of times a President can be elected can limit his effectiveness during his last term. On the other hand it prevents a President from becoming a monarch or dictator or a President for Life.
Currently Rep. Jose Serrano has has sponsored H.J. RES.15 to repeal the 22nd Amendment and it is now been referred to the Subcommittee on the Constitution And Civil Justice. This marks the ninth time he has introduced this proposal since 1997.
Other members of Congress who have offered similar proposals in the last twenty years include the following:
Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts (Democrat): 1995, 1997, and 1999 (all during the presidency of Bill Clinton).
Rep. David Dreier of California (Republican): 1997 (during the presidency of Bill Clinton).
Rep. Jerrold Nadler of New York (Democrat): 1995 (during the presidency of Bill Clinton).
Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky (Republican): 1995 (during the presidency of Bill Clinton).
Rep. Guy Vander Jagt of Michigan (Republican): 1991 (during the presidency of George H.W. Bush).
Rep. Martin Sabo of Minnesota (Democratic-Farmer-Labor): 1991 (during the presidency of George H.W. Bush).

I feel there is little chance of repealing the 22nd Amendment. even if it might be a worthwhile idea.
