New DCCC Ad Mocks Mark Sanford’s Mistress Scandal

HUNTER WALKER 1:48 PM EDT, THURSDAY APRIL 18, 2013

An ad released by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Thursday mocks Republican former South Carolina governor and congressional candidate Mark Sanford for his 2009 mistress scandal. Sanford is currently running against Democrat Elizabeth Colbert-Busch in a special election to replace former congressman Tim Scott, who was named senator earlier this year after Jim DeMint left office to join the Heritage Foundation.

While governor, Sanford was found to be cheating on his wife after he made an unannounced disappearance without even notifying security staff of his plans. He subsequently admitted he was in Argentine visiting his longtime mistress, who he eventually married. The ad makes fun of Sanford's initial explanation for his absence, which was that he was hiking the Appalachian Trail.

"Mark Sanford walked out on us, violated our trust, secretly used thousands of taxpayer dollars flying to Argentina and then lied about it," a narrator in the ad says. "Now he wants our trust again? Maybe Mark Sanford should just keep walking."

There is likely NO ONE who in SC who does not not know of this. Other than emphasizing the problem of just disappearing when governor, how does this help? It seems especially useless when he just violated orders to stay away from his ex-wife.

By the way, I think the article is wrong in that the mistress is still not his wife.

They couldn't trust him when he was governor--why should we now trust him to be our Rep in Congress?
