2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHow much of the gop will not vote for Romney in the remaining primaries?
It might be a big tell if Romney only gets 60% of the vote in the remaining primaries. Just read freerepublic.com and so many of our fine conservative citizens do not seem to want to vote for him. I think if he does not get at least 70% of the vote in the remaining states he is in big trouble.

(24,412 posts)All of the remaining candidates sans Paul have either explicitly or implicitly "endorsed" Romney and Santorum has suspended his campaign, so I imagine that it won't matter one way or another as he has all but been officially nominated to face President Obama. I imagine that turnout may decrease among some of the far right as a final way to "protest" but, given that they hate Barack Obama with the fury of a thousand suns, they will probably hold their noses and vote for Romney in the fall.

(6,115 posts)I will be surprised if Romney gets over about 40% in NC. He has generally polled under 35% and has not increased much even as others have dropped out of the race.

(24,412 posts)no matter what happens. Everybody- at this point- has basically accepted the inevitability of R.MONEY's coronation at the RNC.

(6,115 posts)Not questioning that Romney will be the nominee. The OP was asking about GOP voters and probably about their enthusiasm or lack in regards to Romney.
This is about their votes in primaries, not the GE.

(39,961 posts)I don't think he will win there. It's the South. The South has a completely different take on the Mormon issue than the rest of the US. It's just the way it is. Evangelicals are as likely to vote for Romney as they are to write in the Easter Bunny.

2. Can the Democratic Party split some of the hard core conservative voters away from the voting booth for Mitt Romney since Mitt is not a good secure conservative vote for them?
