(204 posts)This is simply one of the most disturbing things I have heard recently. The more disturbing fact is that I am not surprised. Do these people have no soul?
MrYikes
(720 posts)okay, I can live with that. penn state needs to be quarantined. Don't blame it all on politicians, it is also all the past sex offenders from penn.

(2,068 posts)I read that blog and it just says that Corbett and Co are stealing the money. Doesn't say how or where. What I do know is that they filed suit against the NCAA to keep THEM from stealing the money from the victims. They filed suit to keep the NCAA's greedy fingers off the money and to keep that money from going out of the state of PA. And I personally agree! Jerry Sandusky commits some horrific crimes and others are facing culpability for possible cover ups, but yet many tens of thousands of others are forced to "pay" for his crimes also. So thankfully, someone had the guts to tell the NCAA, this money is being extracted from the people of PA, the victims were from PA, and now the money will stay in PA! Corbett and Co are not "stealing" anything from abused children, they are attempting to make sure the money will be spent where the abuse occurred and not where the almighty NCAA thinks it ought to be spent.
riqster
(13,986 posts)And that renders your argument invalid:
1: Corbett and cronies will not dedicate the funds to child abuse victims. The NCAA did.
2: Penn State and the NCAA entered into a binding legal agreement regarding these funds. Corrupt Corbett and his State Government henchmen are stealing these funds from an agreement between two other legal entities.
CANDO
(2,068 posts)And I'm not so much as defending the governor as I am saying the NCAA simply saw $$$ and went for the grab. Yes, PSU entered into this agreement, but under extreme duress as they were in full damage control mode. If there is proof out there that the money won't go to where it should be, then provide it. The link in the OP offered no information in that regard. And what safeguards are in place to keep the NCAA from malfeasance? I say keep the money helping children in the jurisdiction where the perp operated rather than who knows where the NCAA allocates it.

(13,986 posts)For the Reeps to steal from abuse victims. That is my take on it. Evidently you disagree.
riqster
(13,986 posts)You would know that that the act said that the money being stolen by Corbett the Corrupt can be used "at the discretion of Pennsylvania officials". It says nothing about using the money for the victims of the Penn State Pedophilia Posse. The NCAA fund was written specifically to direct the funds to help child sexual abuse survivors.
If YOU want to trust those motherf***ers in the PA Repub party, that's your option. But it's not an option that a survivor of child sex abuse would choose.

(2,068 posts)There is no link to a CNS article. It's just a blog post of cranky whatever.blogspot whatever. It says nothing. You allege that Corbett and Adm. can spend the money wherever, and I say the same exists for the NCAA. The NCAA had NO jurisdiction. This was not about competitive athletics infractions. It was a CRIMINAL legal matter dealing with child rape. The NCAA stepped in where they saw a vulnerable institution struggling to sustain even a shred of credibility and piled on. They saw a cash cow. I say to hell with the NCAA and am willing to rely upon the will of the PA electorate and the over-site of a newly elected State Attorney General Kathleen Kane to keep an eye on the money. Get beyond your raw and irrational political rage and hatred and realize what the NCAA has been able to accomplish here. They've successfully maneuvered themselves into controlling a $60 million slush fund. You're blind to think they give a shit about abused children.
riqster
(13,986 posts)The first word in the blog post is highlighted. In Internet terms, that is known as a link. It's where I went to find the CNS article. Since that's too technical for some, here is the link again: http://www.courthousenews.com/2013/02/21/55034.htm
CANDO
(2,068 posts)So there you go, how about putting the real informational link to whatever it is you wish to enlighten others with instead of a blogspot dot cranky dot whatever. One word is highlighted and the rest of the world is supposed to figure out THAT is what you should have linked to from the get go. Of course, I understand because the headline is not as inflammatory, sensational or as attention grabbing. However, the courthouse news article is just a synopsis of the NCAA throwing a legal hissy fit accusing PA of stealing it's "private property". How telling is that? An endowment for abused children is considered "private property" by the NCAA! It's a slush fund. The state just says it should stay in it's own jurisdiction. So there you have it, entity A is accusing entity B of theft of private property. And then that gets distorted into entity B stealing from abused children. Nothing more than agenda driven claptrap hiding behind abused children.
riqster
(13,986 posts)and then wash my hands of you. Evidently NCAA hatred blinds some folks, and that is sick:
"Regardless of your political views or party affiliation, this writer trusts you are outraged. And if youre not, it is to be hoped that you have no access to either children or public funds: because anyone who would support these despicable and heinous actions shouldnt even be allowed to walk the streets, much less have access to our kids."
CANDO
(2,068 posts)Read it carefully, because it wreaks of fanaticism. It is saying if you don't engage in group think then you are a monster. I have a beautiful, intelligent 13 year old daughter. And YOU think I'm a pedo-monster because I refuse to go along with fanatical political hatred against a Republican Governor and his administration. This all stems back to those of a certain fanatical mindset who spit their rage at anyone or anything possibly related to Penn State as guilty of pedophilia. Well, bark up another tree. The NCAA has no jurisdiction, and I'm damned glad our legislature stepped in and righted a wrong. As i pointed out earlier, the NCAA preyed upon a vulnerable institution because they saw $$$. What you and the NCAA are doing now is hiding behind abused children in accusing the State of PA of stealing from them. In reality, the State is making sure the money is kept and spent on abused children within the borders of PA. See you in court, Counselor!
