So which justices were missing? Scalia, Alito and Clarence?

I can see Scalia - who dances to his own castanets - and Thomas who hurries to follow him. But why Alito? Still holding a grudge for the way Obama chastised them about Citizens United? When he was sitting mumbling something like: not true, shaking his head, some couple of SOTUs ago?

and one other guy - not sure it if was Alito or Breyer. I always get those two mixed up.

Could have been more there but Scalia was definitely 'not' there.

Conservative justices skip State of the Union
2/12/13

The conservative wing of the U.S. Supreme Court was absent from President Obama's Tuesday State of the Union address.

Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia declined to join their six other colleagues at the prime time address to Congress.

The President was invited by the Speaker to perform a duty detailed in the Constitution and these individuals who are supposed to interpret the Constitution decline. I wish someone asked them. Perhaps someone at Fox and friends..

In the period from 1982 (there was no address in 1981) through 1999, however, on average only
56 percent of the justices attended and no more than six justices attended any of the addresses (save for
two years early in this period, 1982 and 1984). In the period from 2000 forward, on average only 32
percent of the justices attended the State of the Union Address. This includes a three-year time period
when only a single justice – Stephen Breyer – represented the Court at the annual address.

At Clinton's last address in 2000 no one attended.

QE: I can see Scalia - who dances to his own castanets - and Thomas who hurries to follow him.

Why would thomas want to go, eh? just another place where I cant say anything, sheesh, I do that all day at work. Either he went to karaoke night at the hawk & dove, or stayed home watched 'long dong silver' with white bimbo wife.
(long dong the porno flick anita hill claimed he watched, during his confirmation).

But why Alito? Still holding a grudge for the way Obama chastised them about Citizens United? When he was sitting mumbling something like: not true..

That's my guess, they won't entrap me again, cheesy liberals.
I wonder if he stayed home & removed all the vowels from reince preibus name.

Personally I don't watch the SOTMA (state of the mess address) when a republican president gives one, but then I'm not a supreme wizard, faster than a speeding lobbyist, as powerful as a loco motive, able to leap rationale arguments with a single bound.

and don't watch the Republican rebuttals. Catching the highlights later - Jindal bizarre talk, Rubio not ready for prime time - provides comic relief.

While his colleagues got ready to go to the Capitol, Justice Antonin Scalia sat on a stage across town and held forth about why, for the 16th consecutive year, he would not be joining them for the State of the Union.

Alito's decision not to attend was no surprise, in particular because his mother, Rose, died last week at the age of 98. Her funeral took place in Hamilton, New Jersey, on Monday, according to an online obituary in a local newspaper.
