Christe is out of his fucking mind..........!!!!

This is just not a responsible man, who would say or do anything to get himself attention. He also possesses a temper with no boundaries what so ever!

Source: Raw Story..
The former White House physician who said she was concerned over New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s (R) health should he become president suggested on Thursday that Christie called and lashed out at her after publicly calling her “a hack.”

“It was essentially the tone of the press conference only louder,” Dr. Connie Mariano told KTVK-TV, referring to Christie’s statement on Wednesday. “It was hard to get anything across.” When the station asked if Christie yelled at her, she nodded affirmatively.

Mariano, who served during both the Clinton and George W. Bush administrations, drew Christie’s ire after telling CNN earlier this week she was worried about his risk of suffering a heart attack or a stroke.

“It’s almost a like a time bomb waiting to happen unless he addresses those issues before running for office,” she said.

That statement led to an angry response from Christie.

“She must be a genius,” he said. “She should probably be the Surgeon General of the United States, I suspect, because she she must be a genius. This is just another hack who wants five minutes on TV, and it’s completely irresponsible — completely irresponsible. My children saw that last night. And she sat there on TV and said, ‘I’m afraid he’s going to die in office

Chris is obese by any measure. There is no way he could be classified as healthy by any reputable physician.

The question here is whether a public figure such as the governor, with reputed interests in "higher office" should be subject to reasonable, public concern about his or her physical capabilities to serve.

While her comments may be uncomfortable I think the public discourse about fitness for service when we may be talking about the federal executive "aka President" is appropriate. Further should Christie be a role model for others? Yes, he is smart and capable even if I disagree with much of his political agenda.

But should't our role models be worthy of their stature? The sports business has successes but also many failings from Armstrong to Bonds. Do we really want to promote the idea that someone of Christie's physical size is a role model?

Obesity is a pandemic in this country. Not only does it mean people will die sooner but it means our health care system is being suffocated by the weight of this epidemic. This starts with hypertension and spreads to diabetes and congestive heart failure.

I'm no fan of the anorexic models on television shows but I think we need to find ways to encourage people to live healthier lives. Governor Christie is NO role model for that.

There is not a 100% correlation between obesity and heart attack/stroke. Without examining him she was an idiot for discussing his personal health. She doesn't know his blood pressure, his cholesterol, his blood sugar, or countless other things.

If a right-wing doctor tried this on a prominent Democrat, I imagine the attitudes here would be very different. Did you like it when Bill Frist did it to Terri Schiavo?

It doesn't even seem arguable to me that doctors should not publicly discuss the health status of people they've never examined. It's only because it's Christie that people here find it acceptable. It's not.

Sun Feb 10, 2013, 12:24 AM

It is clear Christie is obese. She didn't diagnose him as having any condition. She didn't give her medical opinion. She just quoted what are commonly understood issues with obesity and then add the stress of an office like President on it and it is more of a concern. Any talking head, non-doctor could have made the exact same statements and no one would have said a thing because they are accurate statements.

This is just another case of the RW ginning up an issue when there isn't one. They sure had no issue with Bill Frist, who did offer a medical opinion on Terry Schiavo after watching an hour of video. Of course we found out after her death her brain had atrophied to half it's normal size and she was blind. So Frist was totally wrong and should have been sanctioned by whatever agency in TN regulates doctors. But since IOIYAR he wasn't.

And please, try not to use irrelevant arguments like "Many non skinny people are healthy." She wasn't broad-brushing her statements to include "many" people she was talking specifically about Christie. If he's healthy in any sense of the word then lets see what his BMI, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and heart rate are.

He has to prove he's healthy while an MD form across the continent deems him in fragile health. Many 'fat' people can pass a treadmill test, blood pressure test and blood sugar test. The BMI doesn't mean much if the rest of the numbers are good.

I have to say that it is doctors like this one and folks who think their noses belong in the business of others that keep people out of the doctors office. I can't tell you how many doctors have vented at me in the manner you display and believe me it does not make me want to go back.

Bottom line is that this woman has no business talking about the health of someone she has never examined.

Mon Feb 11, 2013, 08:10 PM

Christie is the one who decided to make himself a national figure and to cast about for support for a possible run for president in 2016. When he did that he forfeited his right to be a private citizen or just governor of NJ. If he hadn't decided to do those things and had remained just the governor of NJ then you might have had a valid point. Since I don't live in NJ it would really be none of my concern.

The doctor did not deem Christie to be in fragile health - she never said anything like that. She simply stated some concerns about possible health risks related to obesity and properly mentioned the stress of being president wouldn't help. These are widely known and accepted health risks. One doesn't have to be a doctor to look at Christie or have him in an examining room to determine he's obese. One doesn't have to be a doctor to know that obesity carries with it health risks. Heart-attack, stroke, high blood-pressure, diabetes type 2, and damaging stress on the musculoskeletal system are all common maladies brought on or exacerbated by being obese. Any adult in this country should and most likely does know these facts.

When I watched the video on CNN online it was clear it was edited (probably for time) and the doctor appeared to me to be responding to either a question or comments by the interviewer. She didn't appear to just pull her comments out of thin air. I'd like to see the 30-45 seconds of the interview immediately prior to her statements.

As I pointed out in my prior post. Any talking-head, pundit or columnist could have made the same statements and I doubt it would have elicited much of a response. But, since this woman was a doctor in the Clinton White House it gives the RW loads of pleasure to try to put the Clinton name in proximity to perceived insults on a popular GOP personality and governor.

"Bottom line is that this woman has no business talking about the health of someone she has never examined." Absolutely not true. She, like any other US Citizen (M.D. or not), has every right to talk about the health of a person who's considering a run for president. Since her concussion, blood clot, and admitted double-vision, people are talking about Hillary Clinton's health as an issue if she wants to run. I think that's perfectly appropriate. It is an issue that people should discuss just like Christie's obesity and the attendant health risks associated with that. If there's an increased chance Hillary Clinton could have a stroke due to her earlier blood clot then it should be discussed if she runs. Her having an incapacitating or terminal stroke or Christie having one is all the same. The country would end up in some turmoil for a while until the VP was sworn in and got things under control.

If Christie wants to leave public life and celebrity and fade off into the sunset to become a private citizen again then his health risks due to his weight will cease to be my "business." Until then they are a perfectly valid topic for conversation, op-ed columns, social media, and any other public forum.

Ultimately, it's his politics that should concern people. What bothers me about Chris Christie is not his weight but his politics.

It irritates me that people are so concerned about the overweight, when in truth, many overweight people are quite hardy and healthy and will likely last longer than their "healthy-appearing" counterparts. That's overwhelmingly been my experience. I've known more thin, health conscious people who have had major health issues and who've died very young (by far) than overweight people. It's flat out prejudice against overweight people. Their appearance seems to offend the very shallow.

I should add that I'm currently overweight, but when I'm going through a thin phase, the difference in how people treat me is amazing. I get called, 'sweetie' and all sorts of endearments by strangers. When I'm overweight, I get the scornful up and down look.

Answer - some people need to feel superior about something. And no one wanted them to be governor.

He made one sensible statement in his diatribe, there.

I don't see how he can go on Oprah and admit that he has a "problem," then go on Letterman and eat a sugar donut, making fun of his "problem," and then get mad at a doctor who notices he has a problem.

He has an illness, a chronic condition that needs to be managed with diet and exercise. If he had a face full of itching, pus-filled psoriasis, it would be unlikely that people would pretend to not notice. If he had a tumor the size of a goat on his arm, people wouldn't "pretend" that it isn't there. His condition is readily apparent to anyone with eyesight.

Unless he's wearing a sumo suit, the guy has a weight problem. Based on his past public conduct, it is also VERY apparent that he has a very serious ANGER problem. When those two meet, there are health consequences, and you don't need to have the divination powers of Bill Frist (snark) to figure that out.

The doctor wasn't making fun of him or insulting him, she was commenting on what is obvious to anyone who looks.

Also, it sounds to me, from what he said, that he DOES have his eye on the White House--he's complaining that his kids heard what she said, so he must have shared his plans to run with his family...

“It’s almost a like a time bomb waiting to happen unless he addresses those issues before running for office,” she said.

Maybe he looked at the statistics of how many Americans are overweight, and thought to himself: "huge locked-in constituency!"

Just in case, by the way.................No, I am NOT being serious!!!!!

39. It isn't his appearance that is disturbing..

It's how he deals with challenges.
He lashes out, completely boundary-less.

Imagine a head of state, when confronted with an opposing opinion,
or if a congressman yelled "You Lie!" at his State of the Union address
(not that would ever happen in a million years...)

Christie would yell "SHut up!" or something similarly juvenile.
The man can't handle any confrontation-
(last summer's story of Christie at the Jersey shore shouting
at people on the Boardwalk...).
This is immature, and reveals is great insecurities.
His weight is the least of his problems.

He was embarrassing on Letterman.. that bit with the donuts,
totally uncalled for. There is no sense of statemanship in him.
He is too unpredictable and undisciplined.

I realize the doctor was within her rights to make a statement
but it wasn't done maliciously. How many other doctors have
garnered their opinions of Terri Sciavo, Hillary Clinton, etc.

His weight is the tip of the iceberg (no irony there)-
This is a sad little boy with issues.
Not someone who can lead the western world.

He has paper thin skin and takes offense quite easily. His politics aside, which are bad enough, there are times when the way he responds makes me cringe. He may be unhappy with Dr. Mariano's comments, but she's no hack. She was the WH doctor for Bush Sr. and Clinton. She 's also a rear admiral. He always acts like a bull in a china shop. If anyone contradicts him, he proceeds to insult him. He tries to intimidate people. I don't see how this guy thinks that his bullying ways could play well at the national level.

As for his weight, it matters because he is morbidly obese. He is not just a few pounds overweight, he's more likely 100 Lbs. over his ideal weight. How can that be healthy?

Good description of the gov. What was her purpose in commenting? She might as well have just said lose 100 pounds fatso or you are going to die.
He knows he is fat and he knows he won't be pres unless he can lose 100 lbs.

I've never seen him in person. He is kidding himself if he thinks that all the extra weight he is carrying is not going to affect his health sooner or later. He should try to do something about it, if not for himself, at least for his family. He has young children.

of diabetes, stroke or a heart attack. All she said was the truth. If he does not like that, he should change his diet and start an exercise routine. Simple. It makes more sense than yelling at the doctor.

There are plenty of things to criticize Christie for; this isn't one of them.

58. To diagnose an internal condition, like Schaivo's
Sat Feb 9, 2013, 10:44 PM
Feb 2013

would involve a physical examination, tests, and cat-scans, etc. Cannot be done by a video. However, a simple video does indicate Christie is greatly obese. That is obvious. And when answering the question about Christie's weight, she correctly said it carried higher risk of health problems. That is not a diagnosis, but simply stating statistical probabilities.
I agree his weight should be a lesser issue than it is, but the Doctor did correctly answer the question.

Its merely citing statistical probabilities. Her "ticking time bomb" comment was over the top, but again its not a medical diagnosis, merely rhetoric. I think there's a substantial difference in what she and Frist each did.

about 100 million of us in the U.S.A. suffer from overweight problems that can affect health
It is not OK to hate fat people...How do we get fat people to help themselves?? It seems clear..at least on the surface, that Christie does not want help..or criticism from anyone...............

So, as someone once said..."He is part of the problem, not the solution."

and there's no way you can argue with my diagnosis.

And because of that diagnosis, I can also say with authority that it puts him at higher risk of heart attack and stroke.

You can't argue with those statistics, either.

Dr. Mariano's diagnosis can't be refuted.
