2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumNRA expands its role from fight for gun rights to conservative causes
An NRA lobbyist, Tara Mica, helped shepherd a model bill that requires voters to show a photo ID at the polls. Many conservatives have pushed voter ID laws to prevent election fraud. Many liberals say these laws inhibit voting by minorities.
Mica also helped preside over ALEC's passage of the model bill that became the basis of Arizona's immigration law. That's the law that requires police to arrest anyone who cannot prove when asked that they entered the United States legally.
The NRA and Mica wouldn't talk with CNN, so it's not known whether Mica consulted with other NRA officials about the bills on voter ID and immigration.

(3,450 posts)Now it is left for those who call themselves democrats and are members of NRA to decide whether this was what they bargained for. I hold no hope that the DINOs or blue-dogs will care one wit about this apparent dual roles that NRA is playing anyway!
There is no reason to be an NRA member.....no one is going to take our precious guns away....it would be a logistical nightmare and political suicide

(24,437 posts)They've been a Republican-oriented/anti-Dem political organization for as long as I can remember- ever since around the time Clinton was elected. Interesting how you only really seem to hear from them the most is whenever the Dems are in charge..............

(24,135 posts)like in CO - they found a couple cases where El Paso county voters - ran to the red state Kansas and voted there too.
You'd have to be a pretty damn dumb Democrat to do that.

(49,445 posts)Step two: Lefties leave the NRA, righties fill the vacant ranks
Step three: NRA becomes full of right-wingers that control their funding and political activities.
Step four: Lefties discover, to their surprise, that gun owners are a lot more involved protecting their rights to own guns than non-gun-owners are for their right to... continue not owning guns.
Step five: Lefties get angry at the NRA for being right-wing and effective.
