Related: About this forumSo firearms cannot be regulated.
But it is okay to regulate whether one can have conceal carry, the seasons for hunting wildlife, the type of firearms allowed for hunting, prohibit the shooting of certain wildlife, restrict locations where one can carry, prohibit the shooting of firearms in certain areas, the conditions one cannot be under with drugs or emotionally, prohibit the language one may use while brandishing firearms?

(8,821 posts)All firearms have a serial number when manufactured. If it has been altered or removed, that is a felony offense in itself. What is so difficult about the FBI keeping a data base of firearm serial numbers paired with their current owners? No one would have anything to worry about unless he stole his guns or was keeping weapons which current laws prohibit him from having anyway.
In my opinion, it would also be useful to know who the individuals are who are stockpiling hundreds and hundreds of guns. Other than genuine gun collections, surely no peaceful, personal need could be the reason for doing so.

(16,974 posts)quite a few people think that said database could also be misused. Way would I worry about the government saving everything I have ever phoned, sent by email, twitted, facebooked? They never do anything wrong I know.

(8,821 posts)Every automobile is registered at the State level, one even has to have a valid title and proof of insurance. Guns are at least as deadly as cars, so why shouldn't their ownership be equally traceable?
As to the possible misuse of such data: The same could be said of Social Security numbers, Census information or any other data base our government maintains. The only way to be free from all possible governmental intrusion into our personal lives is to have no government. If that is what you have in mind, the wingnuts' and dingbats' line forms on the far right.

Military-style weapons occasionally make headlines, but the simple fact is it's ordinary handguns that kill thousands of people every year.

(8,821 posts)All guns should be traceable in regard to current ownership. I'm sorry if I was unclear on that point.
Will this limit our 2'nd Amendment rights? No, not unless we are illegally in possession of a gun. I seriously doubt if the Constitution's framers intended felons and the insane to have legal access to firearms in the first place.

(56,582 posts)Every gun should legally belong to somebody, and we should be able to find out who that is, whether by keeping a database, or by firearms dealers keeping records.

(3,547 posts)all dealers must keep a record of the transaction on hand for atleast 20 years. When a gun is found at the scene of the crime, the local LE will contact the ATF which will then start from "the top". They will contact the manufacturer, then the distributer, then the store. The store end (the only end I personally know), will have to send them a copy of federal 4473 (the gun purchase form).

(3,547 posts)All firearms manufactured after 1968 must have seriel numbers on them. Dealers must keep sales records for atleast 20 years.
It is a federal felony to destroy a gun's seriel number.

(8,821 posts)The problem is that many guns are sold privately and at unregulated gun shows. Guns should be treated like cars and trucks, with a requirement for an official title of ownership. Were that the case, law enforcement could easily track legally owned guns and be able to accurately gauge the numbers of guns illegally held. Anyone without a title for a firearm they own would have to face criminal charges. We already comply with such regulation for automobiles. Shouldn't guns be treated at least as seriously?

(1,574 posts)interfere with and try to regulate a woman's right to choose. Also let's see..
They don't care about...
Equal pay for women
Workers rights and a fair wages
Education( Only for the desirables they think)
Healthcare ( If you can't afford healthcare go off and die somewhere )
If anyone says anything about the regulation of weapons that are purposely made to kill human beings they are ready to fight. Okay check.

(22,000 posts)Look at abortion for example. Rachel was saying on her show they are going to effectively stop abortion in Mississippi. These are the same states that are hampering the effect for gun control.

(22,000 posts)And the state has passed trap laws to shut them down. It's not outlawing abortion per se, but making doctors have admitting privileges and other requirements.

These 'collections' at one time in the not so distant past, were called 'firearm arsenals'.
There even used to be an arsenal TAX in many states, like over 25 firearms incurred maybe a $200 tax for a year. True, no lie. some states even over 10 firearms constituted an arsenal. Nowadays it's more like a 'wannabee gunnut', has only 10 guns.
Imagine trying to get an arsenal tax past the Nutty Rightwingers, Armed (NRA). What an infringement that would be, eh?
I googled arsenal tho & nothing really came up on it, but it's piqued my interest I'll still look into it, but wanna watch the SF vs atlanta football. Not team arsenal (england team) futbal tho.... Ciao.
