Montana Republican reaches end of political road
Catalina Camia, USA TODAY 4:53p.m. EST January 7, 2013

Add former congressman Denny Rehberg to the list of politicians who have said they've run their last political race.

The Montana Republican, who lost a close race to Democratic Sen. Jon Tester in November, told The Billings Gazette that he's done with politics after 30 years.

"I made the determination before that it would be up or out," Rehberg told the Montana newspaper. "As it turned out, it was out."

Tester beat Rehberg by about 4 percentage points in one of the nation's most closely watched Senate races. Rehberg's defeat was particularly stinging for Republicans, since Mitt Romney won Montana over President Obama by 13.5 points.

Rehberg joins former Virginia senator and governor George Allen and former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson, also Republicans, in saying their unsuccessful races in 2012 would be their last campaigns. Allen was defeated by Democrat Tim Kaine, and Thompson was defeated by Democrat Tammy Baldwin.

Former Republican Senator Macaca was defeated twice in a row by two different guys who had never served in the Senate before. Maybe he got the hint this time.
