HuffPo: There's More Than One Indiana Company That Wants To Go to Mexico

Trump held up Carrier as a symbol of bad trade policy that has made it easy for companies to lay off well-paid workers in favor of cheaper foreign labor, and said repeatedly this year that he would make Carrier stay in Indiana. The company said on Tuesday evening that it actually would, thanks to negotiations with Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence, the outgoing governor of Indiana.

Trump plans to travel to Indiana on Thursday to formally announce the deal, details of which have been kept vague. Carrier has only said that nearly 1,000 workers would remain; its parent company, United Technologies, had planned to fire more than 2,000 people from Carrier and another subsidiary called United Technologies Electronic Controls. Trump had said he would hike tariffs on the company’s imports, but reports have said the deal involves tax favors for the company.

Nevertheless, some experts think the stunning example Trump has made with Carrier could set a precedent that discourages other companies from shifting production to Mexico, although there’s no guarantee. For instance, Trump hasn’t said anything about Rexnord, and the company said after the election that it was committed to its offshoring plan.

Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) told The Huffington Post that he had a meeting earlier this month with the company to see if anything could be done to make it stay in Indiana.

“There was very little interest,” Donnelly said.

The company did not respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.

Comment: You may recall that little thing called the Iranian Revolution in 1979, when Iranians took over the US Embassy. The US military rescue failed. The hostages were released when Reagan was inaugurated. That was the deal Reagan struck with the Iranians. Reagan did not want Carter to reap the benefits of negotiations with Iran, and Iran agreed. Weapons followed, aka the Iran-Contra Deal.

So here we have Trump negotiating with an American company, which seemed to be perfectly happy to keep its employees on the hook, unwilling to negotiate with the Obama administration, or the Democratic senator from Indiana, to keep at least some of the jobs here. So here Trump comes in to announce that *he* has saved those jobs. Of course, no details.

My bet? Trump said he would buy Carrier air conditioners if Carrier would keep at least some of the jobs in the US. My other bet? That we will never learn the details. Trump and Carrier won't go into to details, and the MSM has given up on doing its job. Just the way a dictator likes it.

Look, I don't need any more shit that will make me sick like this. But we're in for a long and dangerous ride. Maybe it'll be a wake-up call. Maybe not. Maybe there won't be an America that we recognize in 4 years.

Whatever credit goes to pence, who's actually governor of Indiana and in a position to promise tax breaks. Even still, I suspect Indiana paid a high price to save only some of the jobs.

All the endless rhetoric from the halfwit "conservatives" about how liberals and government muddle into businesses which should stay the fuck out of it, and ... They will breathlessly cheer saint trump for taking credit for a back room deal to save a handful of jobs.

The last Rethug President that did not play games with the American Public was Eisenhower. With each Presidential Rethug,we have seen a amping up of American divisibility. Trump is a master at the Puppet Show Scam to benefit only himself.

Someone nailed it yesterday when they described Trumps meetings with all these so called Cabinet wannabe's as Auditions.

It's not like this is a treaty with a foreign government, which the president negotiates with the Senate providing advice and consent.

He's not even in office and the orange man is acting like a dictator.
