2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHow Would They Have Covered Their Tracks?
Assuming the perpetrators went through so much effort to hack and alter the election results, I think they would have taken precautions to ensure that all eventualities would be foreseen and prepared for.
Were there somehow a recount, will that uncover any alterations, or just reconfirm the hacked results?
They got away with it in 2000 & 2004, and perhaps even tried something in 2012. This borders on treason, so I am less optimistic that they would allow their plot to be uncovered, and the election results overturned.

(10,602 posts)You and I both know that what happened is just wrong. It stinks in every possible way. I do believe the previous elections were tainted as well. But they were not tainted enough to stop Obama from winning. I am 100% sure that there was a problem. I remember that Indiana and Kentucky were called for Trump EVEN BEFORE THE POLLS WERE CLOSED in those states.

(3,194 posts)I know that's going a bit far, and it's sad that it even has to be suggested.
But seriously, 2 years of campaigning, Millions in contributions, and it really just comes down to a few hours of hacking the tabulation of votes on election day.
But, we're like Charlie Brown, keep believing that this time, we get to kick that ball far down the field. Stupid Charlie Brown.

(50,310 posts)Nothing happened in either 2000 or 2004 and the chances of anything happening now are slim to none. We cry "fishy" and mainstream Democrats look at us and think "nut." Ed Rendell was on MSNBC today talking about the number of votes Trump won by in one of the states - 60,000+. He said it was foolish to think a recount would overcome that number. Meanwhile, I was yelling at the television that the number itself was a fraud. It could be -60,000 for all we know.

(3,194 posts)Voting for President, or even following the campaign is a complete waste of time.
Your vote does not really matter. Theirs does.

(4,187 posts)If people conclude that their votes don't matter, they will stop voting, and only the most extreme right-wing nutcases will bother to vote. This is already happening: most liberals are disaffected and don't vote, while all the wingnuts vote, and we end up with someone like Trump. This is exactly why there should be an audit of the election: the people deserve to be reassured that their votes count.
