2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTwo weeks into this mess here's what I don't understand.
This is a country with one single largest majority group. A candidate (who just also happens to be a liar on so many levels and hopelessly unqualified) insults that group, repeatedly, for decades, on multiple levels and suggests by words and conduct they are pieces of meat who exist for his pleasure. The other candidate is a member of that single largest majority group. The election should be a blowout in favor of the latter candidate. Right? It isn't. The liar wins in the electoral college. Why? Because it seems 51% of that largest majority group, white women, voted for the liar. Another small percentage voted for another member of their majority who didn't have a chance of winning, but stayed in the race and siphoned off enough votes to probably cause the woman candidate who had a chance to win to lose a couple of states.
I suppose I am a misogynist. I was raised that way. An old, white male. I voted for a woman for President in this destructive election, which is more than too many women can say. Women failed their country and f**ked up my life (which they have done on an individual basis in the past, but not collectively). Flame away if you wish.

They take a little from here, put it here, throw an election...now they own it!!
What I find fancy, is how they also worked through the gender votes...SWEEEET! (snark)

(49,991 posts)But there were a lot that voted for him for a myriad of other reasons too.
I know a couple women who voted for him voluntarily. One is a widowed, former Democrat and retiree. She just had a blind hatred for Hillary. There was no convincing her that she was voting against her own best interests.
The other even convinced her libertarian husband to vote for trump.

(20,584 posts)in what you say. I do not understand it but many women hated Hillary but could not tell you why. Some of it was the decades long effort to destroy her by the RW. But there is also something else going on - multiple factors likely. But I have a feeling that it is something primal.
For some women Hillary represented a threat to their position in life. They have security "knowing their place."
