The headline implies positive change, the data suggests mixed.

Assume I have 100% car owners who today drive a 2014 Chevy. For 50% I replace their 2014 Chevy with the dream car of their choice. For the other 50% I replace their 2014 Chevy with a 1998 Ford with a shorted out electrical system.

After surveying the total group, I report my findings : "Majority of car owners see change"...do you think I've really captured the likely opinions of the group?

The headline is not stating a fact. It's stating an opinion.

That's what the story is for.

And no, the headline is not stating an opinion, it's stating a fact. If it said "positive change", that would be an opinion.

The internals on this poll provide an interesting comparison and demonstrate the degree to which CNN wants to spin Trump to the positive. Even compared to Bush, he's a disaster and 43% having buyers remorse - that's insane.

46% approve of how Trump is handling transition - Obama 79%, Bush 65%
53% think Trump will be Good/Fairly (29/24) Good President - Obama 79% (41/38), Bush N/A
48% more/43% less confident in Trump since Election - Obama N/A, Bush 54/28, WJC 53/26

The change question is asked and reported poorly IMHO.

66% belive Trump with change the country. 43% believe that change will be good, 21% believe it will be bad. Unclear if that is 43% of the 66% or 43% of the whole. Either way - leads to a different conclusion.

This is the same game played with the ACA "data" republicans used when they said 80% of America was dissatisfied with it...yeah - because 50% wanted to go further.
