Dems Prepare To Stare Down GOP Over Debt Limit

BRIAN BEUTLER DECEMBER 12, 2012, 3:15 PM 1615
President Obama has made it abundantly clear he will not surrender to the GOP’s demands if Republicans refuse to raise the debt limit next year. Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill say they have his back.

But what about rank and file Democrats? If the GOP is serious about replaying the 2011 debt limit crisis next year, would they unite behind Obama? If House Republicans pass debt ceiling legislation which includes billions or even trillions of dollars in cuts to social programs next year, and then leave town just before the deadline, would House and Senate Dems really call John Boehner’s bluff?

Early signs suggest they would.

“I don’t think the country will stand for it and I think Democrats will make it clear that you cannot threaten the economy of the United States for your political purposes,” Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) said in response to a question from TPM on Wednesday.

Rank and file Democrats are starting to back him up. ...

When I was defending my president! LOL, I think you remember which post I mean Cha!

Now we see the phrase again a few days later!

Great post BTW!

You said "I will take your back". Are you an American and eligible to be a Democrat and vote?

There are people who are not eligible to be Democrats and vote because they are foreigners. Some post from Canada, England, Australia, and possibly even India and China.

Is this phrase "I will take your back" a common one in your community? You said "I will take your back". Are you an American and eligible to be a Democrat and vote?

***And Another answer to my response Both of these are from the same poster!***

A simple "yes" would do. When there are people on this board who are not eligible to be Democrats

and vote in US elections because they are foreigners in foreign countries, and when someone uses a relatively odd phrase which indicates that they might be a foreigner and ineligible to be a Democrat, it is certainly appropriate to ask the two questions that I did.

My inquiry began after you said: "I will take your back."

My two questions were:
(1) Are you an American and eligible to be a Democrat and vote?
(2) Is this phrase "I will take your back" a common one in your community?

I suggest that the questions are reasonable ones because most Americans have never heard of the phrase "I will take your back."

That phrase is not one commonly used. A Google search for the phrase shows that it is not commonly used.

Somehow I think that this is an incident where you protest too much.

This game, as has been said, ain't beanbag. Its nut-cutting time, and the GOP needs to get back a thousandfold what they have been dishing out all this time. I ain't going to be happy until the GOP is destroyed.

If that is what it takes then do it. Speaker Boehner will lead this country to the fiscal cliff and a government shutdown. Now that is something to cry about.
