Senator Ashley Judd? New poll shows the actress trails Mitch McConnell by just 4 points

A new poll shows that the actress trails Mitch McConnell by just 4 points in a hypothetical Senate race

BY JILLIAN RAYFIELD

A new poll from PPP shows that in a hypothetical match-up between actress Ashley Judd and Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Judd is only behind by four points.

Judd, who says she is considering a run in 2014, is trailing 47-43 percent behind McConnell, who happens to be the most unpopular senator in the country.

From PPP:

Only 37% of Kentucky voters approve of him to 55% disapprove. Both in terms of raw disapproval (55%) and net approval (-18) McConnell has the worst numbers of any of his peers, taking that mantle from Nebraska’s Ben Nelson.

McConnell is predictably very unpopular with Democrats (23/73). But his numbers are almost as bad with independents (33/58) and even with Republicans he’s well below the 70-80% approval range you would usually expect for a Senator within their own party (59/28).

They are big fans of our wines and we hang out when Dario is racing at Sonoma Raceway.

She is the real deal.

She drives a pickup truck, too.

Ashley will kick his ass in a one-on-one.

My state, sadly, seems to get redder by the day.

Many of us have wanted to "ditch Mitch" for years. We ran Steve Beshear (our current Gov) against him and lost. I'm not optimistic about Ms. Judd's chances, once Mitch starts spending money and campaigning. I hope I'm wrong.

Education
Ashley Judd attended the University of Kentucky and was supposed to graduate in 1990, but didn't have enough credits. In 2007, she returned to complete her degree in French, with four minors. She is an alumna of Kappa Kappa Gamma and a Phi Beta Kappa nominee and was an honors program student at the University of Kentucky.

To further her career as a political activist, in 2009 Judd enrolled in the Harvard Kennedy School's Mid-Career Master in Public Administration (MC/MPA) program. The program is geared toward enhancing public service careers and moving them toward a public or non-profit leadership position.

Humanitarian Efforts
Judd's contribution to earthquake relief in Haiti includes an auction held on e-Bay. John Calipari, basketball coach for Judd's alma mater, University of Kentucky, held an auction as part of "Hoops for Haiti" that featured an exclusive dinner at the coach's house with Calipari, his wife and Judd. Judd's personal chef will cater the affair.

Judd was outraged at the aerial killing of Alaska's wolves, promoted by former Governor, Sarah Palin. The Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund and Judd began a campaign to stop Palin's wolf slaughter.

On the list of charities and foundations that Judd supports are the Children's Medical Research Institute, YouthAIDS, Malaria No More, SixDegrees.org, Five & Alive, Listen Campaign, Jeans for Genes and Population Services International.

Accomplishments.. being a realist and all.. and very humble..

On stage this afternoon, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand encouraged you to run for Senate. Is politics in your future?

[Laughs] It’s obviously very honoring that a lot of people encourage me to run. What I’m most interested in is being helpful and of service; that’s the greatest match with my skill set and the career that I’ve created—and I don’t just mean as an actor, because that’s more of a distraction at this point. I’m just interested in what’s the best use of me, and right now, the best use of me is working in international development, and doing the kind of work that I do in the U.S.

I think Ashly will bring new ideas to the senate and she could go FAR. It just depends on how many millions the GOP will spend to support this LAME DUCK.

These are not just rumors, she has actually already taken the first steps towards running for office and the very early stages of the campaign are taking place right now. While it has not officially been called a campaign she has already been meeting with officials and has even hired opposition researchers. She is not ready to announce her plans yet, but she certainly seems to be making preparations to make that announcement. The big question is not whether or not she runs for office, but when she runs for office. She will most likely go against McConnell, but she could decide to wait until 2016 and run against Rand Paul instead. Either way however her ambitions for political office are real, while her campaign may not be official yet it is happening in the background.
