2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Fact Is That Obama Is SURGING In The Polls In Spite OF Gas Prices Etc
He is up 66% over Romney with Hispanics and +14% with women over Romney. He is leading in Florida, Ohio AND PA by decent margins.
Yet the MSM is over blowing anything they can get their dirty little hands on to make it seem like he's in BIG trouble for the fall.
BTW - if the ACA is overturned it will only help Obama, because the people support him and they will see this a a president who tried to do something great for the country getting obstructed by the Rs in Congress, the Rs who brought the case to the SCOTUS, and the Rs on the SCOTUS who have shown themselves to be partisans of the worst kind.
The real fight this fall is NOT Obama's re-election. It's regaining the House and keeping the Senate.

(602 posts)but a large part of me feels that if the ACA is overturned, it will only fuel the President's opponents. IMHO, "Obama tried to enact an unconstitutional, rights-violating law but was denied because of the checks and balances of our system" is a pretty strong talking point. Just my two cents. I really hope that isn't the case.

(37,540 posts)Republicans might think they've won an ideological battle over Obama, but what they've really done is create more financial problems for a lot more Americans. They have no workable option. If they manage to kill this, Obama can start running on Single Payer. "We tried to use the republican model and they killed it, so now we'll run with the better Democratic model which will pass Constitutional muster",

(22 posts)Well... considering that the Republican party is voting for crap x 10... I am not sure the word "surge" is what I would use.
It's not hard to do good when placed against garbage.

(11,519 posts)Romney will pick up after their convention. He really hasn't started campaigning against the President yet, the SuperPACs will kick in and start spreading nonstop lies on television and radio, and Romney will be making a hard turn to the center. It's going to be a lot closer than it is right now and we can't afford to become complacent.

(53,061 posts)The Republican Primaries are a Ptomkin Village of political activity.
Lots of money but little real action at the community level.
The Republicans are going to nominate someone that has the personality of Bob Dole but without the humor, courage or political insight.
Bob Dole light.

(15,185 posts)Same with McCain. Both would have made shitty presidents, and I don't think I forgive Dole for his Swift Boat defense, or McCain for bringing Grizzly Grifter woman to the national spotlight, but both did serve their country honorably and risked their lives for it.
What the hell has Romney done? He took over companies, laid people off, and raided their pensions. Real honorable.

(190 posts)Four years ago, during the '08 election season, gas prices were either the same as or higher than they are right now, depending on the week. This is such an imbecilic non-issue being cooked up by Fox and Fiends; the irony is that a lot of the blowhards who take to the airwaves spouting their indignation over the "soaring" gas prices and Obama's failure to personally reign them in seem to be the same geniuses who drive oversized SUVs and pickups alone, sometimes for a trip as far as two frigging blocks, and never hauling any cargo. If you have such a huge problem with gas prices, consider getting a more fuel-efficient vehicle, and/or maybe utilizing mass transit or even your own two feet once in a while.
Ultimately, it's the same whining I hear from people who complain when the price of cigarettes goes up. No matter how much it goes up, people grumble but continue to shell out. This is not a valid political issue.
