2016 Postmortem

Obama is playing the Republican party to an exit stage right. Right after inauguration he will appoint Richard Levin , the immediate past President of Yale as Treasury Secretary to replace Tim Geithner. Levin brings with him the tenure of not only the longest serving President of an Ivy League school, but a host of friends that are CEO's from American business that support him in all that he does. It is so brilliant of Obama to play the brinkmanship game with the Republicans making them shout their position, one that can be shot full of holes by the intelligentsia and leaders of the business community in this country. All of this echos Obama's docile approach to Romney in the first debate. He let him run like a fish with free line making him set his position in concrete. Romney was stuck with his own hardened statements and Obama was able to use it in the next two debates to hit a knockout punch---classic Mohammad Ali "Rope a Dope"when he fought George Foreman by tiring him out.
The Republican Party is in for some very big surprises in the next four years. Obama is getting them to harden their position on the supposed "fiscal cliff" and other issues, so when it is time to take them down---he will be using the best brains in the country to expose the Republicans position as extremely faulty and doomed for failure for the country. Obama is doing this so that his legacy will show him as the greatest "leader by example". His mother is smiling at her son because she taught him tolerance and wisdom is the way to win in the end. Now, just wait until you see his other appointments.

(1,060 posts)but the timing was not right. We'll see him at the Inauguration and a lot more in the new administration. There is no one on the Republican side that can stand up to his credentials.

(1,361 posts)We are the dopes if we think Obama is going to make it so we come out ahead in this debacle. Conversation on this board is about how we are hoping to prevent losses to Medicare and SS.
Instead, Obama should be figuring how to expand Obamacare into Medicare for all. Or expanding SS to remove the cap.

(328 posts)... to see the House turn democrat, larger democrat majority in the Senate, democrat majority in state governors and state legislatures in 2014 and another democrat in the white house in 2016. Then we can make some real progress in fixing the mess the republicans have left us to deal with.
Personally, I'd like to see a LOT more progressive independants elected. They are less constrained by *party politics*. Regardless, the country needs to realize the republican brand needs to become an unprotected endangered species for us to move forward as a people.
