The danger of having someone both evil minded and not smart in power

Donald Trump is not smart.

He's not a slobbering moron, mind you. He has to have some basic level of intelligence to keep up in con. But like all classic conmen, he only has to be smarter than the people he's conning.

People who are both smart and well-intentioned will be rightfully repulsed by Trump.

People who like Trump are both unintelligent and evil minded will find a compadre in Trump but mostly be a mindless follower to his cult.

But the worst are the people who are in fact smart and have ill intentions. They will play Trump and his narcissism like a fiddle, flattering him and playing up his ego while acting to get what they want.

I'm thinking people like lobbyists for the energy industry. I'm thinking people like Vladimir Putin.

Smart and evil trumps (no pun intended) dumb and evil at the end of the day, every time.

He (and his henchmen - including W) did irreparable harm to the U.S. but he didn't take us totally over the edge. I fear that Trump would.

Which is a perfect example, except Trump's 10 times the narcissist that Dubya was.
