Pastor cautions Christian women about those Trump-loving Men of the Christian Right—and he NAILS it

Pastor cautions Christian women about those Trump-loving Men of the Christian Right—and he NAILS it

MenOfTheChristianRight

John Pavlovitz is a veteran minister in Raleigh, North Carolina who’s not afraid to call out men on the Christian Right, also known as The Religious Right and DonaldTrump-lovers/supporters/defenders. In a recent blog, Pavlovitz bluntly tells Christian women/all women that they don’t matter to these right-wing religious zealots who build up and defended Trump and the misogyny he brings to the table. Pavlovitz says Trump feels it’s okay to physically force himself on women and that seems to be natural and acceptable to “Men on the Christian Right” who believe “God is a dude and the woman brought sin.” He tells women:

“To them, you aren’t separate but equal, as they might claim from the pulpit. You may be made in the image of God, but not in the same way that they are. You are inferior. You are lesser than. You are Adam’s rib meat; baby machines, meal preparers, arm candy, pleasure tools designed by God for men to use as they desire. Some of these men of God will have the guts to actually say this, others will simply prove it to you. They are proving it to you now. Listen to them.”

Pavlovitz says in their twisted patriarchal world, the men on the Christian Right think all men act like Trump, all men talk this way, all men think this way, but adds, “No, we don’t—but they do. If these professed men of God truly acknowledged your inherent value, they would be fiercely defending you right now, instead of Donald Trump. They would be openly condemning such disregard for the image of God within you, and sharply severing their ties with him—but many of them they aren’t. They’re making excuses. They’re blaming the victim. They’re doubling down. They’re digging in their manly heels right now.”

The pastor says it’s not only because the Christian Right men want to cozy up to a possible “President Trump” or pledge their allegiance to the Republican Party, or opportunistically seek to advance their profile. No. Although all of those reasons apply, Pavlovitz says the real reason is worse.
“The real reason they’re doing it, is because to them you aren’t worth defending; not your intelligence or your gifts or your worth. As a result, your consent isn’t really a concern either; you may have noticed that. It’s why, in their minds sexual misconduct almost never occurs, and when it does, it’s because you were dressed too provocatively or sending mixed signals, or because their motives were misinterpreted. They don’t believe you have the right to say or no or to be offended. If anything, they believe you should be flattered. This is the hubris of men who think God made you as an accessory.”

I know the "good" Christians are out there, but they don't get enough recognition or press, and can't drown out the megaphone that the Talibangelists have.

as a christian man i just do not understand how many so called christians who can stand behind a party that spreads so many lies the way the republicans do or a man who tells such YUUUUUGE lies as trump does. it's one of the commandments for crying out loud!

As white Christian men, they had a lock on power and control. They see it slipping away. They desperately want it back. They are threatened by the idea that they are just like anyone else and don't get an automatic advantage as their birth right. The competition without a head start scares the shit out of them.

As an atheist, I am nonetheless cheered by moments of spirituality. It was very uplifting to read how this man's deep religious faith directed him to actually taking the more difficult path and doing what's best for others. It's even more of a pleasant surprise to find a Christian man so in touch with his feminist side and preaching against what must be accepted church dogma.

I was intrigued enough to find his website to see what other essays he has written. "If You’re Afraid of Election Day" is his latest essay, and he adresses his concerns, "To the LGBTQ community, to Muslim-Americans, to people of color, to immigrants, to women..."

It's worth a few minutes to read more.

I was in the grocery store a little while ago and saw an older woman (60ish) wearing a Trump button. A young man behind her in line saw the button and said (louder than necessary so more people would hear it) "Alright! She's voting for the pussy grabber"!
It looked like she couldn't decide whether to kill the guy or herself.
I don't know if she will change her vote, but I'll bet she won't be advertising it anymore.

the Republican party. The party of hate, greed, and guns doesn't represent any of the values that I hold dear to myself. Caring about others, helping those who are less fortunate, treating people as equals... those are some of the most important lessons I've learned from my faith. That's why I've always felt right at home in the Democratic party.

To me, the agenda of movement conservatism is antithetical to the teachings of Christ. I have to question whether some of Trump's "Christian" followers have even read the New Testament.

And I would also like to applaud the courage and insight of John Pavlovitz. I think he's a genuine Christian, as opposed to the people who think that just because they go to church Jesus would approve of their hateful behavior the rest of the week.

The whole rib thing - I actually knew a woman who believed that men have one less rib on one side. I told her she might want to Google that & she replied that the Bible trumped Google.

Man created God to control woman.
